When in 1993 was the 4th gen Camaro released?

Was it released in Jan/Feb 1993 shortly after being unvieled at the LA and Detriot auto shows or did they release the Camaro later that year?

I dont think they launched it in the Fall of 1992 as a 1993 model but I could be wrong. I have always thought that the 1993 model had a really short run since it was more of a 1993 1/2 model.

Did GM ever have a prototype of the 4gen Camaro of the show circuit before they unveiled the actual production version?

I wonder if this might hint how they will release a 5th-gen Camaro.

I'm pretty sure it was later 92, it is always like that. Thats why we say we'll see an 07 Camaro in later 06.

You couldn't find a 1993 Camaro around here until March of 1993. I bought mine in April, and it was like the 3rd or 4th Z that West Chevrolet had sold.

Yah, I believe that the 4th gen was supposed to come out in 92, but due to some last minute design changes influenced by the California Camaro, and to the severe budget crunch GM was experiencing, it debuted in 93.

Does anyone know if the 4th gen Camaro was ever shown in prototype form before the actual production car was made or did they drop the entire bomb shell at once.

It seems like when a new Vette in unveiled there are no pre-production protos on the show-circuit that hint to the new Vette's design and I wonder if there is a new 07 Camaro we might not see it until its unveiled and ready for production shortly after.

We might have to to NAIAS of 2006 before we actually get to see it :-(

I do remember a spy photo of a clay mock-up (or something like it)of the 4th gen Camaro in a car mag around 1989 too.

The first 4th gen I saw was a red Firebird, and I remember that it was winter. I'm almost positive it was very late 1992.

I think they started rolling off the production line in Nov. '92, which would be considered a late start.

There were problems with the 93 6-speeds, and not too many were available. I thing it had to do with the rear axle, there was a 2.73:1 available.

Also, there were problems with the white cars, the paint stained yellow from the plastic underneath. Just when they thought they had it fixed, and started white car production again, it turned out the body side moldings were turning yellow also. I originally wanted a white model, by the time they were available, the 94's were out, and Teal looked better!

I believe the 93 models started production in late 92, but initial quality problems kept the production numbers low, and wasn't there a strike that cut production too?

I don't know if it was motor trend, but they did show up in like 89-90 as renditions of what the cars would look like. However, unlike most of the time these renditions were dead nuts on accurate.
