Whats wrong with GM

Which one hurts GM the most
a) marking up vehicles doesn't make them sell better
b) many GM sales people don't know much about what they are selling.
c) GM seems to be late to the game on many of their vehicles and technologies
d) GM's products are great by themselves, but compared to overseas competition they fall short, especially in the economy and passenger cars as well as minivans and the like.
e) the fiat deal

i say d even though I love a lot of GM's products and would buy them in a heartbeat, they really do fall short versus their competitors sometimes.

I love GM but it's true.
edit: I'm not saying that all sales people are ignorant or all GM's products are bad at all just saying that those are some problems GM faces

Re: Whats wrong with GM

The biggest problem with the new FWD products is lack of a AWD option.

Maxx, G6, and 3.9L & 5.3L V8 W-bodys should all have an AWD option.

GM managment sucks at setting prices. I want to see reverse sticker shock.

I think the problem is poor exterior design (excluding Camaro/Corvette/Caddilac) Most GM cars are UGLY.

Re: Whats wrong with GM

The company is too large and unwieldy. There are too many divisions when you consider the fact that the divisions are more of marketing divisions then true product divisions. The divisions are still poorly differentiated. It has taken too long to produce new models that may help to create differentiation. The current centralized model does not work for the number of divisions; that is to say that greater divisional independence should result in greater developmental efficiency with greater product differentiation. Alternatively half of the divisions should be eliminated. The Business major: Engineer ratio is bound to be greater than optimal. The cost of doing business is too high. There are poor decisions in which corners to cut in order to make vehicles profitable. There are incompetent individuals setting the prices. They do not have enough control over the dealers.

That is, in my opinion. I am no expert.

Re: Whats wrong with GM

Any problem GM has can ultimetly be blamed on the managment, because they make the decisions.(except for idiot salesmen and to a lesser extent markups).

It's too bad really that their size is such a hindrance. It really should be an asset.

Re: Whats wrong with GM

poor choice in sales. i honestly think that the gto would have killer sales if was was brought back NOT AS A GTO, but naming it something else. naming it something else automatically puts it in the catagory of a smaller sedan market without the need for comparison of the old gto or any other pony or muscle cars. it would be the first sedan since the impala SS to carry a stout drivetrain and have very good performance. with a little moe refinement, it could have been in the competiton for a bmw or something of that sort. by naming it the gto, people are comparing it to the older ones and are disappointed, but people would like a sedan with that kind of power, and lets face it, it has the looks of a sedan too.

I don't know about sales, but at least from an Image stand point the public would be more excepting of the car as a Pontiac Monaro than a Pontiac GTO. The only real complaint other than the trunk thing is that it doesn't look GTO enough for some people.
