What's Jeep gonna do with the Wranger?

Looks like they're working on a next gen and we should see it by 2007.
Everything i've heard thus far has been good except the 3.7L being swapped in place of the 4.0L, and Jeep possibly going to a fixed roof with removable panels instead of the non-fixed hard/sof-top roofs which are pretty much a signiture of the wrangler.

Re: What's Jeep gonna do with the Wranger?
The Wrangler is not being axed. As stated above it is said to have removable panels instead of a one peice removable top. Some Jeepers think this may be better in that is will be easier to "go topless" by removing 5 or so panels instead of one large top. Storing the panels will be easier as well. I suspect that once the panels are removed it will look and feel a lot like the current Wrangler. The current Wrangler has an extensive roll cage so hopefully whrn the panels are removed it won't look too weird.. Spy shots of the next Gen Wrangler have been posted on the internet. Can't see much, it's heavily camo'd. The turn signals are returning to their classic location, in the grill. The I6 is an ok engine but fuel economy is not the greatest. The Wrangler weighes around 4500 lbs! Hopefully the V6 will improve mileage. The Wrangler is the only vehicle in DCX's offering to use the I6 engine, so you can understand why they want to get rid of it. I own an '01 Wrangler and I follow the news about the Wrangler as much as I follow the news on this forum.
The longer wheel base Wrangler (the Unlimited) is only one model. You can still buy the short wheel base model. '07 will bring a 4 door Wrangler as well as the 2 door.

Its going to be pretty interesting to see how it turns out, DCX has had some pretty cool Wrangler concepts in the past, I wonder which direction they will take it.
Re: What's Jeep gonna do with the Wranger?
Will anyone actually miss the side curtains on today's Wrangler?
I'd say it's about time that all Wranglers had roll up windows and full doors.
Traditionalists will moan and groan, but normal people will be glad to see a soft top Wrangler that's more like the outgoing Mercedes G-wagon Cabrio than a CJ5. Perhaps we can ever look forward to any easy to use soft top - or even a power top.
Of course, no Wrangler has ever been as much fun as the old CJ5. Go figure!

Re: What's Jeep gonna do with the Wranger?
According to Edmunds, curb weight of the Unlimited Wrangler with the I6 is 3741 lbs, gross weight is 4600 lbs. I guess I was thinking gross weight (which is about the total weight when my fat **** is sitting behind the wheel)
I was quoting a number I read many times on a Jeep forum, next time I check the facts before I spout off.
