How about a Z27 (wasn't that the RPO for RS back in the 60's?)

I think Camaro already has enough names to cover all it's bases. The key is in using those names properly.

I thought Z27 was for the SS....Either way it's a little too close to Z28 for me.

It does have a decent amount of names (RS, IROC, Type LT, Berlietta, Z28, SS, and ZL1) but the mustang seems to have a lot cooler sub-model names than the Camaro, like Cobra, Mach 1, Boss, and Bullit.

I think It would be cool to have something 5th Gen specific.

Since Mustang has the Boss 302 How about Camaro having the Moss 496 named after John Moss who has done some bad *** Camaro concepts, that and it would kind of poke fun at the Boss mustangs.

Moss S/C could be a midrange Camaro with a 330HP supercharged 3.9L V6

One thing GM really lacks, besides caddy is a true touring car. You can argue the GTO is, but I think it's a bit heavy. I may be wrong, but thats my opinion. Why not restore Z-28 (or Z/28) as a road racing V-8 (302 maybe?) car that still out runs GT 'stangs in the 1/4 miles. In that case here's my lineup.

Base Camaro
Camaro RS (still a V-6, but with 20 more horses than the base, and some appearnce cues)
Camaro Z-28 (road racer, small displacement V-8)
Camaro SS (straight line monster)

Keep in mind what we've heard about the C-6. Apparently it's going to have some pretty high horsepower, which means theres more room for a difference between SS and Z/28 models. Maybe something like 325 to 405 or something.

RS was RPO Z22, Z27 was the SS.

How about CamaroLite?

In all serious though... why does the midrange Camaro need a special name?

The people most likely to buy a midrange car would be buying it for more dash and less flash anyway. (i.e. performance over gawdy stripes and wings.) Therefore I'd think they'd be happier if the average man on the street couldn't tell their 5.3L V8 Camaro from the next guy's base V6 model.

Not only the midrange, but special edition Camaros like Ford does with the Stangs (Bullit, Mach 1, Boss, Cobra R)

ZL1 would be a good name for a Big Block Camaro
but what about a Turbo V6, Supercharged V6, S/C V8, High revving V8 or I6. What about a special "bling bling " Camaro with 20" rims and more apperance stuff. What should all of these speacial Camaros be called?

Is there any specific reason that some here are hung up on a "small" displacement Z/28?

Is this reasoning all based on the the SCCA's Group 2 rules from 1966-1969 that required a 5.0L limit to homologate production models?

From my perspective...I find it ridiculous to limit a future Z/28 to a rule from a racing series which was in effect 35 years ago, for afew years, and later changed.

How about:

"I can't believe it's not a Z28"

...Sorry, coudln't resist.

My real answer is I don't think there's anything wrong with the names, just that there's not enough differentiation between the models.

WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I bought a white car with orange stripes so that EVERYONE could tell it wasn't run of the mill. This is one thing I think that drove sales down...a V8 was identical to a 6 save for a few logos, which on a black or dark green car you can't even see! A V8 car should DEFINITELY have something different....at least different wheels.

And no more Z28 models that don't even have that

RS, RS, RS...no new name needed. I agree, call it Rally Sport, and it works. Camaro shouldn't have to follow the LS/LT crap of the rest of its ho-hum lineup.

Well GT has always been associated with Trans-Ams and Mustangs (To name a few) SS should stay, and Z-28 is the only name that NEEDS to stay. RS should be brought back, be it NOT in a 6 cyl version, it just does not do the badge justice. I think one should be called the Z04, or Z05 or Z07, whenever the car comes back ie 2004, 05 or 07. Obviously Z06 is out of the question.

The designations they have are fine but they do need more separation up top. Why get an SS with 10 more hp for 30K+ when you could get a Z28 for @25K? The SS model should have had about 50 more hp so that there really would have been a difference.

Think about the GT vs a Cobra.
