What are most '05 GTOs getting off the lot for now?
Im just curious how the 05's are doing for prices since 06's are starting to get on the lots already or soon. I know last year the 04s you could get new for like 26k or so at certain times last year. If you can get one similarly this year i think i might be at a Pontiac dealership in a couple of weeks.
I was poking around on local pontiac sites, but all the sites list is the MSRP which averges about 33-34k. I really dont know how to bargain with dealerships
so I figured you guys could give me a rough number of what i should be able to get one for so i know how much i have to work them down. ( Now if only i knew how to work them down
)
The dealership in Orlando has 15 05s on the lot as compared to 3 on the one here in Tampa and I think one of theirs is an 06 so maybe i could get a better price on the lot with more Goats on it.
PS: If anyone knows any similar information on the 05 WRX's or STis that would be useful, those are my second choice.

What about the GM employee discount pricing promotion their doing. Would that apply to a GTO? How does that work, and how much would it knock off the price? I feel dumb, for all my technical knowledge i really am in the dark about things like this. I dont pay attention to them.

wheres Jason E at when you need him??? he sells Pontiacs. he'd know better than anyone. and he's actually an honest guy. try checking with him.

Re: What are most '05 GTOs getting off the lot for now?
I was talking to a guy at work today who was giving me some pointers, he was a car salesman for years. He said be prepared to walk, numerous times if neccesary. he said the last couple of cars he bought he got up at least 3 times. But even if i did have the barganing thing down (which i dont) I still need to know how low most dealers are going to be willing to go so I know if Im getting a good price or not.
Re: What are most '05 GTOs getting off the lot for now?
Invoice on an AT car is $32,163 (MSRP $34,295)
Invoice on an M6 car is $31,438 (MSRP $33,690)
There is no rebate. Expect to pay no lower than $500 over invoice, so I think $31,900 is as cheap as you're going to get it. And expect to have to work your a** off for that, too
We sold 5 this year...2 ordered units and 3 stock units. All were M6s, so for '06 all I've ordered so far is an M6 in, uh, Brazen Orange Metallic
Yeah, you can tell who ordered THAT car

This isn't really GTO related but just a general question I have. Since Dealer Invoice is 32k and MSRP is 34k that's a 2k markup on the GTO. (Which sounds fair). Now what portion of that does the dealer take and vice-versa the salesman.
Is it the $500 taht the dealer takes, although what salesmen is going to sell it with no $$$ in his pocket unless their is other incentives...???
Just wondering how the "Dealer Salesmens" have to operate. If you can't tell anything about it would definetely understand.
Re: What are most '05 GTOs getting off the lot for now?
Well, at MOST dealerships the base pay is either $5-6/hr, or none at all. If there is none at all, typically what happens is the salesman will still collect a paycheck every week, known as a "draw." At the end of the month, if commissions are only paid once a month, whatever the salesman collected as a "draw" is subtracted from his commission check. Its basically done so that we can, you know, eat
Commissions? It depends. MOST dealers around here give you 20-25% of the gross profit. So, take this GTO for example at $500 over invoice. I would collect $125 from that. Then, I THINK most dealers consider the holdback "profit" as well (I know we do). So figure there is $1,000 in holdback on the car. I would get $250 from that, so in total I get $375 for the sale. Not bad, but consider that the average salesperson scrounges for 3 sales a week, on average, year round. So yeah, its a decent living, but you work 60 hours a week, put up with a lot of **** from management and customers who look at you like something that belongs on the sole of their, shoe, etc.
Admittedly, I have a lot better deal than that. We're a little smaller and a little less busy than most dealers, so I negotiated in a helluva base salary (not draw). When I was full time, my base was $10/hr, but my commissions ranged from $100-250 per car, depending on how many cars I sold each WEEK (like I said, we're weird). But with less competition on the floor, I sold like crazy and could sell 4-5 cars a week easy. The one year I was here FT (most of my time has been while I was in college working 25 hrs a week, or like now where its only Sat), I made somewhere around $50k, and took a helluva pay cut when I left to go to a commercial bank. And that was working only about 35 hours a week, because I was working on my MBA at night. However, because we have no F&I manager and fewer salespeople, we have less overhead. Plus, they were willing to pay me more to keep me, because they wanted me to take over as sales manager eventually.
Have I confused you enough yet??
Basically, car sales can pay, but its a tough gig. I refuse to re-enter a FT sales position, even at my former pay level. Now, I get $12/hr and a nominal $100 per car I sell as a courtesy for running the entire showroom on Saturday. I do it more for fun and some extra cash now, and so as long as I pop a car a week, I'm thrilled
I want to get back to a dealer at a FT level, but as management. Admittedly, I might become a traitor soon...another local, family-run dealership needs an F&I manager as well as an auction buyer (the 51 year old husband recently passed away unexpectedly
) who can do other administrative stuff as well. Now THAT is something I'm dying to do. Working with cars, but not on the floor...and I can go hide at auctions, which oddly is my favorite part of the car world. Most people despise it. The only catch? Its Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep. I like Mopar, but even the owner knows I'm a GM nut. She says she can convert me...we'll see
As long as its domestic (yeah yeah, I know all about Daimler...look at the domestic content per vehicle...I still consider Chrysler products domestic for the most part
), I can sell it. Put me at an import franchise, and it would be like burning in hell. I can't do it. It goes against everything I've preached on this board. I was offered an F&I spot at a Honda dealer, and I turned it down despite the fact I'd be paid a lot more than at the bank. How's that for pig-headed, asinine domestic loyalty?
At least no one can call me a traitor
Sorry for the novel...you just happened to hit on one of my favorite subjects. With any luck, I'll be sitting in an F&I office 30 minutes north of here in about 60 days

Re: What are most '05 GTOs getting off the lot for now?
I went looking at GTO's last week. Sadly the wife is not prepared to sign off on the idea at this time - but there is a cert (SCJP) I'm shooting for which takes a lot of hours to get and she said if I get that "then we'll talk"
Anyway, I got pretty much bottom-line prices from two dealers I work with. The dealer I've bought a few Pontiacs from quoted me $31,600 for a new 2005 A4 (Yellow). Another dealer quoted me $32,400 for a Blue/blue 05 A4 he located for me in Akron. HTH
BTW Saw this review link over at LS1GTO.com, pretty cool... (scroll down to the 05 GTO review)

Re: What are most '05 GTOs getting off the lot for now?
Isn't F&I just another salesman that rapes you? (nothing against you personally). I am good friends with a GM of a large Chevy dealership here...and he always says he makes more money financing a customer than on the actual car (dealers mark loans up in most cases..many customers don't think to negotiate this). Also F&I tries to sell all that stuff like Gap insurance, extended warrenties and undercoating. Nothing personal...I just have always hated these guys even more than the salesman because they are just another salesman...yet it is not presented as such in most cases..
As for the GTO...You are better off waiting for the winter and looking for a used one....which I may do.

Too much. If what you say is true then it loses 8k after one year, probably with relatively low mileage. If they could put it in the 20s that would be superb. People say they are selling like hotcakes, I seriously have seen 10 04's on the road and maybe 1-2 05's.
