Crazier things HAVE happened!
Between you and me (nobody else ) I actually owned a '73 Vega for a short while. It was medium blue with black interior.

Nice
That's the kind of data I am intimate with on Mustangs, but don't know about F-bods - hence I come here!
Thanks for the tip!

'86 Sticks in my mind because I went so far as to order an '86 GT w/T-tops and 5-spd, but ended up in a 5.0 T-bird instead (don't ask... ). Then I actually got a ride in a buddy's '86 while home from college and it made an impression on me. His and my T-bird were same year models, and his car's looks and presence just impressed me - so it's easy to remember the year.

Anyways, if I end up with one, it would be for show/collecting, not necessarilly for power. But I definitely know how those few extra ponies and special features can make a car more desireable, and therefore collectible!

Catch ya later IZ28.

I thought I would chime in on this thread. I hate ricers like a lot of Camaro owners here, so I guess that would come as no surprise.

I also hate the new GTO. In fact, I hate the new GTO with a passion. I hate the car more than ricers, because I expect ricers to be ridicuous looking, with their 4 foot wings, and weed-whacker exhaust systems.

But the GTO is a different story. When I first heard of the GTO, I heard that the muscle car nameplate was returning. The GTO was to make a triumphant return to the car world. Perhaps it could even replace my beloved Camaro that GM stopped making. The car was hyped up A LOT by GM.

When I first seen pictures of the car, I thought "Is this a joke?". It looked like an oversized cavalier with a grand prix front fascia. I couldn't believe GM had, in a few short years, brought us such wonders as the Aztek and the Vibe, turned several of their V8 RWD muscle cars into FWD V6 cars, killed off the Camaro and Firebird, and brought us a souped-up cavalier as some sort of symbol of the muscle car era.

By the time the GTO came out, I was fed up with GM. The GTO is a symbol of everything I don't like about GM.

Well, I can't say I really HATE any type of car, besides rice rockets. Hell, I don't even hate those...anything that makes you laugh that hard can't be all bad, right?

Anyways, I agree with someone's above statement that while I can appreciate Japanese cars, I will never, NEVER buy one. Call it patriotism, call it belief in keeping American jobs, (yeah yeah, so Camrys are built here...profit still goes overseas ), call it pigheadedness, call it a belief in buying inferior quality vehicles with superior depreciation abilities

Whatever you wanna call it, I will only drive GM (or maybe a Dodge or Ford)...because I can't bring myself to even test drive an import, any import. I get a little patriotic feeling every time I peel the top of the Z on a Sunday afternoon, turn the stereo up and blast around town...it feels good to be behind the wheel of an American muscle car. Even the Grand Am gives me a good feeling.

I just wish more people felt the way I did. We will never again see GM domination the way it was...but it would be nice. For one, while the GTO does look like a Grand Prix, I love it. It is no F body replacement, and I will not sell the Z for it. But a 340hp, 6 speed 2+2 with clean styling and amazing handling AND ride is something to appreciate, as long as they can keep the price in line...

I look forward to getting my first one in stock!

I grew up with a car guy dad that wasnt exactly keen on Fords. I remember when I was looking for my first car I mentioned getting a 88-93 GT and my dad told me I wouldnt be allowed to park it in our garage, ha. He had a lemon Ranchero way back when and we've never owned another Ford. He also had a lemon 85 Dodge Ram and I swear to god I'll never let my grand-children buy Chrysler products because it was that bad. I dont hate Dodges though, the new ram looks mean and of course the Viper, but I would never even consider buying one - again Viper withstanding

I do say that I hate retro cars in general. Bel Air, TBird, 05 Stang, PT Crusier, GT, SSR lump 'em all together and I hate them all. It's such a cop-out from the artistic standpoint and when I buy my first new car I want to buy a new car, not a modern old car. I want to buy something that makes people say "God damn that looks sharp" not "God damn that looks like the old 67 I used to have. I loved that car." Yea it may have been a cool car, but I want mine to be cool in a new way. Maybe I just dont have the love and appreciation for the older models like you guys do since I didnt grow up with them.

For me it more or less has to do with the "attitude" of the average owner that drives them. In general I hate BMW's... basically because average BMW owners think they own the road. I think my hatred for Mustangs is more towards Mustang owners. Don't get me wrong some Mustang owners actually know their stuff and don't talk down other cars just because they don't say "Ford" on them... however for the most part, every Mustang owner I've talked too has been a jerk... MY SON INCLUDED! Whereas my kid's best friend has a '71 Mach 1 and I can talk to him about cars for hours, because he doesn't have that preconceived attitude. I even noticed that while driving either of my kid's Mustangs other people's attitudes towards me on the road change... they certainly are far different from the reactions I get when I'm driving either one of my Camaros.

Go figure.

I'm not sure what it is I "hate" about certain cars, but I know what it is I like about certain other cars, and it's not something you can always explain with words, it's more of a gut feeling.

A lot of times when you get a great first impression and you start loving a certain type of car, then your mind is made up forever from then on, and you'll even go as far as to overlook significant problems, just to defend your newfound object of affection.

By the same logic if you get a really bad first impression of a car, well then it tends to seal that car's fate as something you'll hate forever and will even overlook major advantages it may have, to justify why you passed it up and bought the other brand, or whatever.

Me personally, I guess I'm simple in that I stick with what I know, and I greatly rely on first impressions. I've been with GM since my first car, so that's what I know generally, and have no reason to look elsewhere, since I've been very satisfied from a durability standpoint. Looks are also a big consideration, and again I lean towards GM. Some cars just tend to have a more personifiable spirit to them, like something you could look at as having human qualities, even emotions, and something that can stir your soul. Even though I dislike most of GM's mid90s+ cars and I lean towards older simpler times, both sets of cars still have that little something that I could never find elsewhere. The General's spark or whatever. I look at Ford (for example) as a hunk of metal, whereas I don't see Pontiacs that way. I can't really say I truly "hate" any car but I highly despise many of them. 3rdgen to 4thgen is one of the more dramatic cases; love 3rdgen with a passion; highly dislike 4thgen.

The way I see it, most every car out there today has an unjustifiably pissed-off front look, a look of fake confidence that sprouted from nowhere, a huge bloated *** with 4 vertical feet of useless plastic and those fake grip-like useless shapes/colors they put on the underside of SUV bumpers, and a general vibe of "hey, look at me, I'm attention-starved and I'm entitled to something special over you, just because of who I am, not what I do". That kind of baseless confidence all-looks-no-substance BS look is the reason I can't find any late model car I like. Whereas people used to fall in love with cars' modesty and style, now we're driven like a cattle herd into choosing our next cars by their intimidation factor, whether they have the goods to back it up or not.

Basically it all boils down to what someone has seen and experienced themselves, what they grew up around, what they may have been driving when they were learning life's adolescent lessons. And their personal tastes beyond that. I don't think it's any more complex than that.

huge wings, 5 inch mufflers, neon lights, and ugly body kits make me hate a car.

I've seen these items on cars I would have otherwise liked, including Camaros. Again, it's the owners and their poor taste I don't care for. lol, I guess I don't care for the punk kid with two-tone platinum blond hair and an attitude driving it first and foremost.

It's funny because the more people try to make their cars "unique", the more common and ordinary they've become. Ordinary and tacky.

HERE-HERE!!! I second that statement...

Again, the theme of this thread - why hate the car? I say "hate" the cabron that did that mutilation job on an otherwise decent mode of transportation at minimum. The car didn't do it!

This again is the misguided emotions we have been talking about. We as humans seem eager to pin our emotions to inanimate things instead of each other. At this point in my life, I still just can't understand "hating a car"...
