What is the latest word on V8 W-Bodies?

The past couple of years its been back and forth no go, or its a go?

In the Jan. '05 issue of GMHTP they have confirmed that the Grand Prix GXP will get a 300 hp V8. A Gen. III SB V8, probably the 5.3L that has been converted for FWD applications.

What about the other W-bodies, '06 Impala and '06 MC?

The engine is called the LS4 and is 5.3L & 300HP, you can buy one this March.

'06 Impala get the engine too. '06 LeSabre replacement will also probably get it.

will it have the dreaded torque managment, like the 04 and 05 3.8 s/c V6? I know that the 04&05 models were slower than the 97-03 because of torque managment

Nothing pisses me off than going to pass on a freeway in my GP, and when I stomp it, it doesn't down shift...just stays in overdrive.

Or better yet, "abuse mode" where after 2-3 runds at the track, the PCM says your being naughty and takes about 1.5-2 seconds off your time.

There has to be some PCM programming around "abuse mode" the aftermarket can come out with...

Torque management can't be too overkill though, because otherwise the cars will be no faster than the 3800 S/C variants and the car rags will call foul...

Do you mean to tell me that the PCM in Grand Prix, both GT and GTP, has some influence on your driving performance with some sort of "abuse mode"????? Wow.

Did they do it only because it's too much torque to handle for FWD, or is this something that every car will be seeing shortly? GT doesn't really have THAT much more torque, Altima's 3.5L is much more horrible at torque steering and goes without such intrusive technology.

They did it because of the tranny. It is funny, from any kind of a roll my GP is a dog because it doesn't (or rarely) down shifts when stomped. However stomp it from a standstill it will spin the tires till the TCS kicks in and take off like a bat outta hell.

I want a aftermarket PCM, but not under warrenty.

The '06 LeSabre replacement (Lucerne) is getting the Northstar v8.

Lucerne is still on the G body platform, so chances are that it will use the Deville's set up of Northstar.

Id like to see the 5.3 in the LaCrosse!! Call it the LaCrosse GSX.

I bought the $169 reprogrammed PCM for my Comp G from Intense-Racing.com and it totally eliminated the hated 'abuse mode.' I kept my stock PCM to switch it back in for trips to the dealer.
