...IMO, in a car like this the structural/rigidity advantages outweigh any advantages in utility.

I will miss the hatch...a lot. That is, if it goes.
However, what makes us assume it IS gone?? I mean, we don't KNOW that, do we???
Those of you who don't like my

Things I want to see in the 5th Gen...
1) It needs to be a great car. Power and design notwithstanding, it needs to be a useful, simple, reliable, easy car that you can live with and drive all the time, 24/7/365.
2) Design must SCREAM Camaro. Not say it, SCREAM IT.
3) Must beat Mustang in every category, like it has always done.
4) Gotta be the best bang for the buck... again like it has always done.
5) Bring a smile to my face every time I start it up.

In all seriousness though, the rear hatch worked great on the 3rd gens, on the 4th gens it was a joke.Bring back the trunk and make a true sports coupe I say.

I don't understand. There's not much of a difference really. I think the 3rd gen's had slightly larger opening, but that detracted from rigidity.

Seriously, I know they tried to step up things with the ttop leaks over the third gens, and I haven't had any problem with them, but there's other dumb things that they overlooked in the search of cost cutting.
My new leak is coming from the fact that when the car's parked on a downhill, the water will pool up in the trough in the back hatch. There's a drain towards the back, but that doesn't do anyhting if you're parked with the car pointed down. Instead, it rises up until it leaks through the weatherstripping. My hatch is closing correctly and the litlle rubber bumpers are at their lowest. Why couldn't they have put a trough there up front? It coudn't have cost that much to have incorperated another one in there. It's these little things that **** people off and give these car's bad names.
For example, pop the rear hatch when it's wet out and it's designed such that water runs not into the trough but into the inside. My 15 year old nissan hatchback doesn't even do that.
It's hard to defend the quality of GM cars when they have a hard time comparing in something as simple as water-proofing to an import that's 12 years it's junior.
BTW, a lot of this is just me venting, but it is true. There's a lot of simple things that GM overlooks that ends up as problems later on in it's life.

It is however funny as hell, when the person has never been with me through the car wash.. They are just sitting there, so i offer no towel.
They usually ask "why are you staring man?" I say "Youll see

DOUCHED! "OMG OMG OMG MAN WTF WTF HELP HELP!!!"
Me: there is nothing i can do! Stop it with your hands!!!!
They then hopelessly try to stop the douching with 10 fingers, its halairious!!!
I laugh until i make a yellow stain in my underwear EVERYTIME, as they sit there like a soaked dog.
I then take the tops off and let the sun dry them off

And you can get back to a more traditional shape w/o a hatch, more sexy, less airplane wing-ish...
Just give me a removable, light weight tow hitch, I'll pull a 'lil U-Haul or something..

Re: What I really want from the next Fbod
I RARELY ever use the hatch, most times I put my stuff in the back seat or passenger side. and Yes, I have experienced the water fall effect, have to open the hatch VERY SLOWLY in the rain!
My biggest pet peve is the leaky T tops, for the amount I use them they arent worth the leakey effect to me.

Re: What I really want from the next Fbod
If the car is your daily/only car you'll wish the hatch was back faster than you think. I personally like both but find the hatch more exclusive and sporty.
Re: What I really want from the next Fbod
I really dont have a need for a hatch myself and a trunk usually serves all my stowing or cargo needs in a car. I already have a truck if I need to get something bigger. IMHO a coupe with a trunk looks better, but that is my personal taste. Regardless if its a hatch or not Im still buying one when it comes out
