What GM engines can use direct injection?

What GM engines can use direct injection? and is there a time from when we can expect to see them?

The Ecotec (2.0L Turbo) and DOHC HF V6 (3.2L) already have it so I know those two families of engines are ready, but what about the Atlas inline engines? That might be all the 5 cyl needs to get ecepted by the haters. And what about the small block V8s? that is the one everyone is waiting for. I don't expect the Northstar to get it since the Ultra V8s are a few years away.

Re: What GM engines can use direct injection?

that could help out the Atlas 4,5, 6 for sure.

I don't know why the 4 and 5 is down on power (62hp litre and the 4.2L is 69hp)

By this logic the 4cly shold be 193 and he 5cly 241hp

Given each engine is damn near the same...

But yeah DI rocks: you can run higher comression ratio, its cleaner and mileage is better, I think.

The 4 and 5 cyl engines have a balance shaft. That eats up some horsepower -- maybe 5 or 10?

The 2.2 ecotec in Europe is now a direct injection engine now with 155 standard hp . I dont see how it possibly couldnt be part of the Cobalt refresh , coming up in 08 .

I really couldn't care less about the HP improvement of direct injection...it's really not that much. The real benefit is the increased efficiency of the combustion.

I suppose if you left the compression ratio the same. But it allows higher compression ratios, then you can get the max effect from direct injection.

Its alot more then Chevys VVT I think.

Re: What GM engines can use direct injection?

GM could sell a LS7 with 12:1 compression making 600HP and still get the same milage.
