What the heck does the "G" stand for anyway?
People don't know the name Grand Prix because it is perfect or better or whatever than G8 they know it better because it has been around forever.

Exactly, and it would be easier to sell a new and vastly improved Grand Prix, than an unknown G8.

Absolutely correct...the poll is asking the wrong question.

Other than keeping dealers happy, there is ZERO reason for General Motors to have so many different nameplates...such a business model was an outgrowth of how GM grew as a company (acquiring existing vehicle manufacturers) and when they held a large share of the TVM; such a model hasn't really made sense for decades and as most people know, there really isn't any appreciable difference between the "divisions".

If GM is to survive; it needs a new business model with vehicles targeted at appropriate buyer segments/price points; all the gnashing of teeth over whether something is called a Pontiac, or a Buick or a Chevy is missing the point.

Is it? What if there is a negative perception/connotation of the Grand Prix name? What if people remember a really old model and that causes them to have a negative perception of the current one?

Sad as it is I agree and even though I loved my GP GTP, I think Pontiac needs to go.

Saturn is in a place that they can do any of the positive things Pontiac does. I would keep this brand first.

I think Pontiac has been so mismanaged and pointed in so man directions since the 90's that Pontiac probably doesn't really know what a Pontiac is. The Grand Prix vs. G8 name recognition is one thing but I think the entire brand is in identity crisis.

I also agree to kill the Buick brand to save on domestic overhead and only sell the name internationally.

Sell off Hummer and Saab. I dont think either are worth keeping around. Neither of the sales or image of these two brands are killer.

GMC should stay around in some form.

For the most part I agree with what most has been said here.

It goes either way. I have yet to meet someone that has owned a GP GTP and didnt want to marry their car. To me, those people seem to be the target audience for a more performance oriented G8. "Think your grand prix gtp was sporty? try this!"

Too bad the G8 doesnt get a HUD

How many GTPs are running around out there vs SEs or GTs?

Taking into account the number of sales, the history of the marque, and just whether or not the name sounds cool the vast majority that voted got it right.

If I ran GM and I could cut divisions for free we would have Chevrolet, Pontiac, and Cadillac in the US.

My GTP was the perfect daily driver. It was a GREAT CAR. The quality was more than I expected for how old it was when I bought it.

My perfect garage would include a G8 GT (next to a 5th gen, a Chevy Truck and my Z28).........However I'm not in the financial situation to buy a G8 GT.

I'm very shocked to hear sales on them haven’t been stellar. I think the car looks great. HUD would be a huge plus. Maybe it will be integrated once the Camaro rolls it out.

I want to vote for Pontiac, but I just can't see the point to it. I think the reason I do and why most others here do is because that brand is the closest thing to Chevy and slightly more performance oriented than the other choices, and this IS a Camaro site. I don't think it's because we necessarily see it as the best to save, it's too much like Chevy and will never be seen as a niche performance brand, as some of the choices they've already tried to make towards that haven't worked.
