What ever happened to that 6 door Suburban?
Re: What ever happened to that 6 door Suburban?
It was cancelled. Not sure exactly why but, but I could find out.
EDIT
It appears it was canceled due to the cost of structural changes that would have to be made versus the sales it would have achieved.
Basically, think XUV in this case.

Yeah...I had this image of a Monstro-Burban floating around turns with "Do Not Pass On Right Side" stickers on the rear fender. But I guess a suicide door deal would be pretty cool...something different.

Believe it or not but I've seen the 6 door Suburban here in Houston. It is a privately owned vehicle used by Hotel Derek as a Limo and I must say it sticks out like a sore thumb in traffic but I like it.. but then again I'm biased.

Actually the idea probably got ditched when the Cheyenne-insprired full sized trucks were killed by Bob Lutz. What most people don't realize is that GMT900 is shaping up to be a "carried over" product, while the Cheyenne was a truely radical concept. The story of the 6 door Suburban starts and ends with the Cheyenne.
Basically, a Cheyenne style production model would have had a pair of "sidegate" access doors in the bed. More interestingly, Cheyenne probably would have had a pickup bed that was integral with the body - just like the current Avalanche. In short, we're talking about an Avalanche type product replacing the current Silverado as the mainstream 1/2 ton truck. The 3rd row access doors on the Suburban and the sidegate access doors in the bed of the Cheyenne-inspired crew cab would have had structural commonality and wouldn't have cost very much per unit. Think of the sidegate in the Cheyenne as the lower half of the rear access door in the Suburban.
Anyway, Lutz killed the the Cheyenne and there isn't much to look forward to with the GMT-900.

Once again your anti GM bias is glaringly obvious. Come on, we can't dismiss a product that is still years away. I would bet my Camaro that GM does their trucks right with the next redesign. I bet they will own the competition when they come out.
Now if GM does a half a@@ job redesigning their trucks, I will forever give up and lose all hope with GM and become a Toyota fan for life. Half a@@ing the truck lineup will have serious ramifications and would most likely result in GM eventually losing more market share, eventually GM would go bankrupt. If GM can not figure this simple fact out, then they deserve to go belly up.

The bottom line is that the Lutz killed the radical redesign and the GMT-900 is another facelifted product, just like the 2005 minivans.
