What do we know about the C6?
What do we know about the C6?
What do we know about the C6? What do you think the base price will be? I'll start by saying no pop-up headlights
and right at $50k.
Just curious... Why was the C5 such a short run compared to the other generations? Personally I think the C5 is the best looking vette.

Remember the mid years (C2) only went from 63-67...
As far as what we know... well, yes, it is widely assumed that the pop ups are gone... I think this is a horrible mistake. Concealed headlights are an important part of Corvette, IMO...
Also, we should be looking at a roughly 400hp 6.0 V8 as a motor... Z06-type car added down the line...
C6
So far I like what I have heard about the new Vette. I don't mind the elimination of the pop-up lights, I have seen C5's without them they look pretty good.
Wish I could afford 1
Thank god for depreciation

Don't hold me to that, I may be wrong.

Camless!
Yes its not ready yet. The idea is electronically controlled valves run by computer. The problem is the car has to have a 42 volt electrical system to run all those valves that is the part that isn't ready yet. I can't remember where I read about it, it was 1 of the mags. Just imagine the posibilities? They have to get the components (alternators, starters , etc.) to handle the load, that is where the real problems lie with this system.
As I understand it, most 42V electrical system programs have been delayed due to technical issues that must be resolved (including the greater tendency for higher 42V systems to 'arc' and the fact that some components (radios, etc.) may prefer the 12V) and the fact that the increase in electrical gizmos which would eventually require the higher voltage (in vehicle internet, navigation, etc. etc.) have not taken off in the marketplace as fast as anticipated.
I don't think we'll see a camless engine before 2008 model year.
I would think that we would see the XV8 - the prototype seemed so well developed - but haven't heard anything about it in a while.

I've also heard there are a lot of technical issues with the 36VDC systems.
IMO, I don't know why they don't go to a 24VDC system. It's already well proven, the components are readily available, it's safe, and it will still cut the required amperages in half. I suppose they are trying to avoid another incremental step that will just need to be upgraded in 50 years, but if 36VDC isn't feasible, then why keep banging your head on the wall?

GM was able/willing to at least extend production of the C4 while the C5 was on again/off again... that didn't happen for Camaro/Firebird, probably for a list of reasons.
Side note: Look what a new, modern, quality built Corvette did.... I don't see why the same could hold true for Camaro and Firebird.
I agree 100% Darth. The Camaro - for the most part - is the same as its been since 1982. The styling wasnt exactly drastically changed over the years and GM just continued to put Vette powerplants into it a year after the Vette got them. A ground up Camaro, like in 1982 which was scary successful, is the only way to go for a 5th gen.
I guess you could argue that the Mustang is selling well and its based off a 70s Fairmont platform, but it's been fitted with such things as IRS and the SN95 was a drastic styling change from the fox.
