OK....let's clarify a couple of things here...

I was approached by someone last year at B/G (note...they somehow made it there all three years.......take that remark as you may......) to see if I would help deliver a Camaro SS that has been a secret within the family for the past year....and I agreed.

(OK...crucify me for doing something that a genuine enthusiast asked me to do.......)

We posted, as I recall, a "SSecret SSurprise"......and when some people started jumping to conclusions, I posted that it would NOT be a 5th gen Fcar.

So........you feel ripped off and gypped.......so sorry!

Now...I don't know who some of you are...........and I don't know what your schedules are like.........

BUT...if you feel ripped off...well, I'd say I guess I don't understand you....... We tried to do a good thing for a fellow enthusiast....in front of other enthusiasts....and I think there were a lot of people that were pleased to be a part of this presentation....perhaps a few weren't ..but I think it's safe to say that most were.

I DO know this........I keep hearing that we do nothing to support the enthusiast community. And I guess I'm a little tired tonite, here in B/G after a long weekend of great times with our enthusiasts...and so perhaps once again, I'm a little intolerant......like a few of you are most of the time........but I DO know this.......

We spent a considerable amount of money to support this show for the enthusiast....of which I am one of many.......we brought some concept cars, some tricked out Camaros and Firebirds, and a new GTO and an SSR. Tom Peters, Director of Advanced Styling at GM flew down and put on quite a great presentation on automotive design..with Q/A session...even brought his '69 Camaro with him......(he worked on 3rd and 4th gen Fcar.....C5 and head designer of C6)

We gave tours of the Corvette Plant and the Museum.....we provided drag racing and autocross opportunities....a BBQ and a Banquet.......and seminars......there was something there for just about everybody.......did it go off perfectly?.....far from it...but a lot of people had a lot of fun and made new friends...as well as the chance to spend time with old friends.........

If you feel ripped off, I guess I just don't understand that...esp. if you didn't make an effort to show up.

How 'bout saying something nice? Or perhaps not saying anything?

Sorry....but that's how I feel....................

Just a side note for those who haven't seen either of these, I was very impressed with both of them. I never really cared for the SSR, until I got to see it in person. And I always liked the GTO, but I like alot more after getting to stand next to one. They both look better in person, IMO.

Red
I know you had a long day and all but you gotta hold up..

alot of us like myself couldnt make that drive or flight to it for our own reasons and the only way to get info of it IS from here. Our own families and lives are very important and we gotta do that..the few guys that had the time and $$$ to go ( and we know it takes some cake to get to B/G) they went...so for that comment thats a little low blow...

But I just want to defend ourselfs here on this board, just imagine it from our perspective..(Red you know alot more than you could ever let on, even the tiniest bit of info would be huge to us.) Red we dont have that...what we do see or should I say shock us is the new pics of the 2005 Stang..OMG..for a Camaro guy it hurts..it really does...all the Camaro legend tours, special events and concepts cannot help the FACT that we as Fbody guys DO NOT HAVE ANYTHING to counter this fact with, and this 2005 Mustang will be huge!!
To bowtie fans that hurts alot to know we got nothing....like I said you might know GM has something up its sleave in the works but we dont..and its killing us that Camaro is in limbo while Mustang is in the limelight again, ALONE.....and I dont exclude the Firebird but Pontiac does have its own toys comming out soon..GTO and Solstice( even though its not public yet)..and a whole line of performance pontiacs...
to add to that with D/C comming out with the new RWD cars soon..HEMI powered to boot

but seams to me that Chevy is getting the shaft as far as anything for performance if it dosnt say Corvette on the back..

now I could be wrong but I think I speak for alot of people here..we are grumbling again cus of more news from the other car companies..as any TRUE camaro fan would....so yea I can understand some peoples reaction to the big surprise...to me thats great..to have Red give me my own SS...but like someone hitting the lottery..if its not me, then what do I care..

Let me just state Red I love what you do for us.

.but maybee a message for the higher ups at GM..."all this time in limbo..we are looking at other makers that ARE PRODUCING what we are looking for...and to the guy that wants a NEW fast car..well the bowtie might have to take a back seat to a blue oval or whatever they choose to replace something they once cherrished, owning a new Camaro..its just not happening fast enough, and evidence to the contrary is pretty much nill ..."

except for the one post about a possible 2007 Camaro..but still not enough to say hey Ill wait..

2005 isnt far away and I think more than a few guys on here will suck it up and move to the corral if they find what they been looking for in Mustang GT or MACH1 or COBRA..or SHELBY ...

just remember big man that your on the inside looking out...and its one way glass..we cant see in that good...and it sucks...

Have a good one all! Im hitting the bed, IM tired and irritated and need sleep! good night!!!!

From what it sounds like, a lot of people (including myself) thought the SSecret would be future GM product related. I remeber reading that it would NOT be 5th gen related (I was thinking more powerfull Silverado SS or reg cab)

That is really cool for the person that got the new SS and nice of you guys to do that for her, I wish my sister was that cool

There are a lot of people here hungry for news on when we will get a new sub $30K V8 Chevy, and you know how cranky hungry people can get.

The good news is the GTO will be out soon, and looks like a great car. That should hold a lot of people over until a new Camaro comes out. I also can't wait to see the C6 and get the specs on the LS2.

Well, all I am going to say is that I had a GREAT time and I can't wait for the next big event I can make it to. I met a lot of great people and saw lots of really cool cars that before I could only read about.
Thanks Scott and others for all the hard work you put in on gathering this event together and everyone else who attended too.

Jacob

BTW, there was a C6 body in the plant that was sitting out in plain sight during the tour. It was covered by a bunch of camo though. Not too many people noticed it.

K, everyone who is dumb enough to think that was an ACCIDENT, raise your hands.

A HUGE bone thrown to the enthusiasts right there...

Red

I'm really sorry that you are upset at us.. I tried my best to make it out there but I simply couldn't get it done. I wanted to be there so bad. I know you are a little upset at us getting mad but most of us here linger on hoping that we get some news on a new Camaro.

I admit that even I was hoping for a concept or something that was linked to the Camaro project but when you said there wouldn't be one I was disappointed but still hoped that it was something else.

To the person that got the car that is really cool..I wish that was me because I know how long I waited to get mine...

Please Red, don't feel like we are getting angry at GM and are not appreciative, I can speak for myself and say that I am happy that you are in there doing what you do and am really glad that GM held this event.

I hope to meet you one day and hope that when that day comes we will be celebrating with news of the Camaro replacement.

I have faith in GM. I know it is difficult for you to see your beloved car being put on hiatus, but please understand we only get this cranky because we expect so much more and because we care...

PS on a side not how many cars made it out there..were there more than 1000???

I think it was about 1/4 of the way throught the tour.

It looked to me a lot like the picture of the orange one that was posted here a while back.

To Red,

To say I was impressed with the time and effort put into the event was an understatement. It was flat amazing. The seminars were great, the cars on display were great to see, the BBQ and dinner were fantastic...not to mention the people I met down there. The 15 1/2 hr drive each way for me was completely worth it, and I indeed will do it all over again next year...

To those that weren't able to go, you missed out on a great time...make it next year!
