This is just speculation on my part, but think about it without being emotional. The very people that are even concerned about Camaro, and want to see it return, AND plan to buy it, are more than likely going to buy the Top Dog Camaro with a V8. (The biggest one available as well.) Therefore there is no need to have several different models to meet your volume requirements when you already have the Chevelle/Zeta.
You don't see V6 Corvettes or V6 SSR's do you? That is the type of niche market we're talking about. I'm also willing to bet that when Camaro returns, the SSR will slowly disappear.

I want a new Camaro as bad as the next guy. But I'm not gonna give an arm and a leg and live off crumbs just so I can afford a v8 Camaro. If a v8 Camaro's sticker is right, then I'll buy it. But if its too much for me then a v6 would be a perfect affordable alternative. However no v6=no sale in that case. Sorry, a Chevelle isnt gonna work.
I love Camaros. But if the Camaro comes back as a more niche vehicle with only a v8, then to me, thats not a Camaro. Even if it looks just like a 5th gen should look like, it still fails in its exection, choice of model trims. However I do know of a company that has stayed true to its pony car roots. Camaro goes niche, Mustang looks NICE (go ahead and flame Al, but its the truth
)

things have been looking up for GM for quite some time. actually ever since they stopped making the f-body Gm has gotten alot better. they are making more new performance cars than you can count.

Camaro has always had choices, v6, multiple v8's (most of the time). If you couldnt afford the v8 sticker or INSURANCE then there was the v6 model you could jump into. A PERFECT car for low 20 year olds that want something sporty but cant afford the raping the insurance companies give them on v8's (im a perfect example of this).

That car was about cruising and looking good...and it did both great. I miss the car, and wish I still had it, if only for sentimental value. But I do admit, the only reason I sold it after buying the Z was the lack of horsepower. If it had been a 305 TBI, it'd be sitting in the garage now. There's a lot more to Camaro though than just high horsepower...the RS proved that well.

In dark grey the car was very attractive and sporty, handled great, got decent MPG for its day, insurance rates weren't horrible, and it looked the part. So what if I was beat one night by a 4 cylinder Probe??

same story as my 92, cept i could probably never sell it
Re: Are we on the verge of things starting to look up for GM?
I've seen your sig before and wished I had kept my 3rd gen V6
I did keep it for a year after I bought the Z, but I really wanted something newer at that point to drive every day, and the t-top leaks had driven my family insane since 1994...I sold it in March '02 with 96k on it...dumbest thing I ever did...

A v8 only Camaro is basically a Corvette in my book, only with a backseat. If it has a v8 only, hell call it the Chevrolet Z28 or the Chevrolet SS because it certainly isnt a Chevrolet Camaro.
We'll just have to see how it all plays out. Seems anything is still possible even at this stage of the game......

More Camaros on the road equals more free advertising for GM/Chevy.

2. I bought my Z28 because it was the closest thing to a "Corvette with a backseat."

I was presenting a knowledgable point of view regarding how I feel about Camaro's future. Because that is something I feel strongly about. I'm glad you drive only v8 vehicles, how wonderful! I'm sorry I'm not as cool as you and cant drive only v8 vehicles and have to resort to the lowly v6 model. I bow down in presence of your greatness.........

Re: Are we on the verge of things starting to look up for GM?

I learned a long time ago there's more to a car than the motor, especially when it comes to a great handling and sporty-styled car like a Camaro. Sure, I was humbled by the Probe that beat me, so instead of letting it happen again, I later bought it
Re: Are we on the verge of things starting to look up for GM?
haHA, here in Canada we have the Pursuit! Sunfires replacement, and Cobalts equal on the Pontiac side.....but alas, no GTO as of yet

Things are looking up for GM. I like their truck/Suv lineup for the most part, and the new Cobalt SS and upcoming Solstice will inject more excitement into their car lineup. Performance cars look good, but the non-performance once still have ways to go in grabbing my attention.
