Vortec 8100 power drop?

Anybody know the reason why the 8100 has lost 20hp and 10lb ft for 2004?

The '04 truck is 330 hp @ 4,200 rpm and 450 ft-lbs of torque @ 3,200 rpm

the 5.3L is only 35HP less at 295HP

I wonder were the lost came from and were the gain in the 5.3L and 4.8L came from?

Chevrolet.com has 320/440 for the Avalance, 330/450 for the Silverado 3500.

GMC is 330HP too , but Yukon XL 3/4 Ton is 320HP for the 8.1L and 325HP for the 6.0L.

I know the Big Block is all about torque, but it should still have more HP than the 2.1 liter smaller 6.0L V8

Usually when an engine loses power from one year to the next, it's due to emission control changes. I would guess that the new 8100s have a larger, more restrictive catalytic converter, but it could also be camshaft changes.

On a similar note, several California engines make less power than their 49 (really about 45 these days) state counterparts.
