From an outsider's perspective, Holden's big cars seem to be more conservatively styled than the head turning (and comparatively short lived) designs from here in the states, especially in the body. Then again, the current Holden V body looks alot like the Opel V, so maybe there will be alot of design sharing in the body.

One bit of trivia info on the upcomming VE cars (that's almost certainly obsolete by now). Bob Lutz and the Holden people wanted Holden and US versions of the new VE to have different bodies & designs. Lutz because he wanted a different idenity for US models, and Holden because they intend to sell in the US under their own name the 2nd half of the decade. The rest of GM however wanted the cars to share it's skin with only cosmetic differences to save costs (and no doubt to hedge it's bet on returning to RWD for full sized cars).

Don't know how things turned out in the end, but it's most certainly been resolved by now.

It all makes for an intresting 2007...

I wonder if they took the punt and went with Lutz/Holden??

Or do you think the GM bureaucracy won again?

Either way I don't see the wisdom in introducing the Holden nameplate here in the U.S. After all, we were all led to believe that Olds had to go because GM had too many brands here as it is.

Now we're going to market yet another "new" badge here, spend billions on setting up a dealer network here...how much did it cost to launch Saturn again?

I'd say if Holden pushed there brand it, the marketing costs etc would fall on them...

Those cars look to be about the right size for a 5th Gen.

Those Holdens may be conservative looking, but.... they're RWD V8's! Those aussies have figured out what performance car buyers want... meanwhile Chevrolet offers us the unobtainable Corvette and a couple FWD faux-musclecars (Monte Carlo and Impala).

It's almost enough to make me want to move "down under."
