V8 Only in '06 Lincoln LS

Okay, so it's a bit off topic, but I found it interesting. This little tidbit is buried in article about Mercury. I wonder if it will have more than 3.9l displacement.

I don't know much about the Montego, but the Mariner was so nice I bought one last month for my wife instead of getting the Colorado. Once my wife sat in and drove the Mariner the Colorado didn't have a chance.

The Lincoln LS V6 has the 2nd worst resale value (next to the Dodge neon)

Re: V8 Only in '06 Lincoln LS

I don't think Ford is very dedicated to Lincoln or Mercury. Look at the Montego, its just a 500 with a different grill and a little nicer trim. Look at the Mark LT, it looks like a F-150 with a different grill and tail lamps.

The Lincoln Zepher is based on a FWD chassis that is shared with an upcoming Ford sedan(it was called Futura, but Pep Boys already had that name copyrighted, they're going to call it something else but I forgot what).

That seems like the same mistake Jaguar made with the X-type and Cadillac made with the Cimmarion(okay, hopefully it won't be that bad).

I'm fine with Mercury getting rehashed Ford's, but Lincoln deserves better.

Btw: The Futura was renamed "Fusion".

Sounds like you wanted an SUV instead of a truck.

Mercurys have always been rehashed Fords lately. It's nothing new.

Actually, she really wanted a truck and I pointed her at the Colorado Z71. She didn't want the Ranger (too small), the Dakoto (too ugly), the Toyota (too expensive and weird), etc...but the Colorado was nice. However, the seats sucked. We talked about it and realized we didn't realy need a truck that the Mariner would suit our needs and suit them better. And it does it nicely.

Re: V8 Only in '06 Lincoln LS

I'm very encouraged by this:

"Lincoln has the LS, but it's rear-drive and starts at about $33,000 with a V6, about $40,000 with a V8, and Hazel said consumers don't spend $40,000 on their first luxury car.

"The LS will stick around a while, but it will only offer a V8 for '06, and we may reposition it as a performance sedan,
"

and this:

"A certain number of people are wedded to keeping it rear-drive, but AWD would create more buzz," he said."

It means that not only should the underrated Lincoln LS get a more realistic price and FINALLY some focus, but there is also a group in Ford that's not giving into Paul Mascarenas' (Ford's large FWD platform Executive Director) delusional vision that Ford should move away from RWD for all their future large cars.

Yep. But now out here you have alot of young people who are buying them up and throwing "Dubs" on them, and treating them as budget Bimmers or Benzs.

One good thing about the sixes: most of them seem to have the manual. I guess that would be the only reason any one would have bout one new.

Outside the cougar of the 60s & 70s, that all Mercury ever was: upmarket Fords. Sure, Merc got the German Ford Capri, and later German Fords under the name "Merkur", but Mercury has never been more than a Ford with more chrome and more standard equptment.

How many times do I have to say it....

The Lincoln Zephyr is a direct replacement for the not-to-speedy Lincoln LS V6.

The remaining V8 Lincoln LS is now a very old product and odds are that it will be replaced by a stretched Ford-Five Hundred derivative with (at least the option of) the 60 degree Yamaha V8 from the Volvo XC90. I'm not saying a Mustang derived sedan won't happen, but the odds don't look good.

The Jaguar S-type might just go alluminum like the XJ and probably won't have a Duratec V6 available.

Actually, the AWD Zephyr coming out later this summer with the same chassis Fusion & Montego, isn't it?

All are being made at Ford's plant in Mexico that used to make Focus till Ford moved production to the US.

The final decision on 2007 and later models at Ford will be made this year. There's a battle royal going on regarding the Town Car, and it's no secret Ford's been working on a sedan version of the D2C.

The LS was supposed to get new sheetmetal next year, and as far as I can tell, that's still on. The LS is likely to be around till about the end of the decade. The FiveHundred derivitive will have a different name & will sell alongside the LS.

Yes, Fusion/Mazda 6 chassis. Montego is the Five Hundred sister. For the life of me I can't think of the Mercury "Fusion".

And the EN/FN is as good as toast, mark my words. '08 is last year. Look for a slightly stretched Five Hundred when they get their redesign in a couple years.
