Whaaaaaat??? A RWD car? Which will be 220 pounds lighter? With an available V8? Well, uhm, erm, *cough*, ah - that's impossible, isn't it?

Sounds like they are "considering" it.

The previous car was 3600 pounds, I believe. Sounds as if they will shorten the wheelbase to pick up the 200 pounds for the v6.

The 370 market is Porsche Cayman alternative. A shorter WB and lighter weight might get some of the Cayman entenders to give it a peak. V8? Maybe. "considering" is usually marketing speak for "trial balloon".

The 2008 350Z's curb weight is listed as 3320 lbs for the lightest version and 3498 for the heaviest automatic.

You know, you are right. I think I'm thinking of the roadster.

well how can they call it a 370 with a v8, that will undoubtably be bigger than 3.7 liters?

Not for a 2 passenger sports car. The much bigger Corvette has been doing this for years (V8, RWD, curb weight under 3200 pounds).

The chassis on the 370Z doesn't need to be built as tough as a tank either. Horsepower is a relatively modest but respectable 335. Torque is a mere 278 lbs/ft (just 30 horses and nearly identical torque of a DI 3.6 V6). A far cry from the the monsterous 430 horsepower and nearly 400 lbs/ft of chassis twisting torque of the LS3 that a car like say... a 4 passenger Camaro... will have to handle.

Oh, there you go, having your crazy visions of a light-weight, V8 coupe again!?

Put down the crack pipe! There is no place/demand/ability for such car in today's market .

I would imagine the V8 will produce more than the V6's 335 hp.

Also, if I wanted a tank I'd splurge and get Chobham armor, 120 mm gun and gas turbine engine, not a Camaro.

Incorrect. The Lotus Esprit had a 3.5 liter V8. Small bore and stroke can give you a low displacement V8.

There you go! You get the Z you want after all! The fact that it comes from Nissan is purely semantics.

yes but i doubt nissan is going to the trouble to make a 3.7 liter v8 like lotus. I wasnt saying it couldnt be done, i just dont figure nissan will stick to the 3.7 and stay with the name.

As far as the Z car goes, the V8 would be a different displacement than the V6 and likely have different numbers in front of the Z.

It wouldnt be called 370Z. The replacement for teh 350Z is going to get the G37's 3.7 liter V6.

This would most likely get the 5.0 V8 from the FX and soon M series cars, so it would be a 500Z.

Corvette.

Incidentally, if they make a V8 Z, I may go back to Nissan.
