The DI V6 replaces the SPI V6 for MY 2010.

 

I don't know what the sales breakdown is between the V6 and V8, but the last sales figures which GM released, showed that not even one G8 was moved per Pontiac dealer for the month of October. That's V6/V8 combined.

With that said, of course they should offer it with a V6.

 

i don't think the V6 was a bad idea. Not the motor i necessarily would go shopping for at that price but it's a nice package.

Charger and 300 sell fine with a 6 holer.

I think the price and the fact it wears the pontiac name is whats holding it back.

 

I own a G8 GT, when I was looking at these it was strange to me to see the price difference being so close with such little gain in mpg...

I will say this... I do kind of laugh at those who pay G8 GT dollars for a GXP G6... same or worse mileage with less power and a smaller cabin...

 

In a similar vein, a Buick Allure (LaCrosse) Special with the 5.3 V8 is the same price as a G8 GT ... if you're in the market for a V8 sedan, I can't really think of anything noteworthy that the Buick has that is better than the Pontiac. The Pontiac is simply miles ahead of the Buick.

 

Just doing a quick serch online, and there's supposidly a V6 G8 for $25k at a dealership by my house. Kinda tempting.. Same dealership has the V8 for $30k.

V6 is tempting.. but man, if I was going to go into making new car payments, I would just save up a bit more to cover the cost of the V8.

 

Pricing is no worse than a loaded Grand Prix was.

From what I've seen, before the credit crunch, the V8 powered GTs were selling pretty much on target. It's the V6s that seemed to be having problems.

In a way it's like the 4th gen Firebird. Trans Am WS6s took most all of the sales, while V6 and even base Formula LS1s was all but ignored.

 

You could get a base Grand Prix for less than 20k though. The base model G8 I test drove had about the same options, and stickered at 29 something.

 

No Grand Prix listed for under $20K the last few years of production.

You are doing what so many people do: Take all discounts and rebates and use that as a comparison. MSRP is the solid guideline on pricing because incentives come and go, as well as very region to reigon. Incentives also indicate that the model is in trouble on the sales front.

Fully equpted Grand Prixs went for about the same price as G8 V6s.... which are pretty much fully equpted minus leather and nav. Throw in the G8 V6's superior engine and suspension, and the fact it already has the G8 GT's handling and braking package standard, and the G8 V6 blows away Grand Prix on the value scale.

But don't just take my word for it. Check it out yourself.

 

The only thing this G8 had that my base GP doesn't is a sunroof, and the driver information center had more crap it could display. As for superior engine, I prefer my 3.8L. It feels much more powerful, has a much nicer tone, and has a long record of proven reliablity. I can't really comment on suspension or braking, as I didn't really get the thrash the G8 around, and I've grown used to the modified brakes on my GP. I will agree that the G8 is a better car, and for 25K the V6 would be a good deal, but at 29K I'd rather spend a few extra dollars and the the GT.
