V6 G8 a mistake?

Everytime I have been to a dealer, it is the V6's I see sitting on the lots (though with the credit crunch, there are now some V8's). Price wise..the V6 and V8 are really not that far apart..so I am starting to wonder is the V6 a drag on the line?

Just wait for the Firehawk V6 edition for G8 V6s to jump off lots.

I was kinda wondering that too. The V8 is only like $1500 more. On a $30,000 car thats really not too much. Might as well upgrade

Yeah...plus $28K or whatever will buy you a very nice FWD sedan...much nicer than the G8 V6.

That really hit a nerve to most, if not all of, the Firebird Firehawk owners when that was announced.

I don't see whats wrong with a G8 V6--a high powered V8 only would really limit sales. After all Chrysler has had 2 V6's---in their RWD car.

Plus the V6 can pull up the CAFE.

I think DI 3.6 w/ 6 speed auto is on the way.

Yeah the prices can be kinda close I will agree---well in Canada its 5K between V6 and V8..so not that close

I think a 2.0L Turbo LNF + 6 speed would be a better base engine, as long as it could get 30mpg, but it would also need to be at least $2500 cheaper than the V8.

Well, I don't know, G8 has its appeal. It's not just the engine - it's the overall look of the car.

Nissan Maxima is around there, Toyota Avalon, Acura TSX. But G8 is just such a diffferent car. I would pick V6 G8 over any of those FWD cars.

What cars are you thinking?

The prices, and mpg ratings are too close, or else I think there'd be much more V6s being sold.

fwiw, I was just at the Pontiac dealership last week, and there were 2 V6s, and 4 V8s on the lot...

Keep in mind however that the LX is basically Chrysler's Impala...it sells 300K units a year...so they have to have cheaper cars to go to fleets and people who want a large car but don't car about performance. Also the V6 LX's are DIRT cheap. The G8 on the other hand is a 20K unit a year car that is imported, and not intended to sell in volume or to fleets. The V6 is expensive enough that you could get a loaded up Accord for the same money. Keep in mind that the G8 is not exactly loaded compared to most modern sedans (lack of NAV, MP3 hookup...other import quirks). Unless you are braindead, you would be stupid not to upgrade from V6 to V8. Now if a V6 G8 was $23-$24K..that would be interesting.

Interesting ion Canada to Camaro V6 will be almost 5K cheaper then a G8 V6,,,maybe that will have a price drop....a bit

The V6 in and of itself isn't a mistake. The mistake is in the pricing

If the V6's were in the $24k range I'd have a very hard time not trading in the Grad Prix on one. As it is I'd never spend that much and not get the V8 for just a little more.

I've seen a few of them.

To some, the V8 has a stigma, and even if their highway MPG is similar, the city is always much worse with a V8 when it comes to ideling and traffic.

Pontiac needs all the sales they can get right now, if It came with a stick or the DI engine it would be even better. But I look at the G8V6 as a bargin CTS.
