USA Ford Focus RS?

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/01/11/2...finally-unite/

What are the chances now? I know most people on here dont care for FWD turbo-4cyl but humor me...

I know before they had said it wasnt cost effective as the US and European models were not the same, but now with the "global car" will that change? I for one would love to have this car as my DD.

I searched and found nothing on it yet.

The current 2010 Focus RS has a 305-hp/325-lb-ft turbocharged 2.5L I5. I don't know if we will see that, but I wouldn't be surprised if we in the USA get at least a Ecoboost 2.0L

The current RS is kind of expensive at £24,995. In the world of cheap American gasoline most people would just rather have a 400HP 2011 Mustang GT.

European pricing doesn't reflect US pricing... it never does. But, it might have some people wanting the mustang, but it will be probably be 5-6k more at least to get that mustang.

No, but we can at the very least expect 1 to 1 Euros/pounds to dollars. That would make the RS start at $25K, very much into Mustang territory.

Bring the ST ( turbo4 ) and the ST ( turbo5) , it would likely own the sport compact market . The last uk comparo of the Focus RS was tested against the current Evo and a BMW 135i . It wasnt a track comparison , but romp thru the countryside with lots of winding mountain roads . Focus got raves in this test and the BMW wasnt the favorite

Well, not 400hp Mustang territory. FWIW, a Cobalt SS, with destination starts at... $25,255 (MSRP).

If the Focus RS was here, I'd have one instead of the Mazdaspeed3 I currently drive. If they bring it over, and costs under $30,000, I will definitely, definitely consider getting one when the Mazda's time is up.

Very true... at what would be close to 30k, I'd rather front the extra couple of bucks and get a 412hp RWD Car over a 305hp FWD Car.

I'd take the FWD hot hatch. More practicality, more usable interior space, better handling, better braking, more agile... Even though it is FWD, it would totally school the 'stang in the twisty bits, which is all I care about these days... plus the exclusivity factor of the RS is much higher, they make very few. It's also associated with the Ford WRC effort so some people consider it ti have more racing pedigree than even the 'stang (of course the 'stang does well in trans am, American iron & other series)

I agree. It's about the driving experience. The Focus RS is completely different from that which you'd get in a Mustang.

Even if it sold as high as $30,000, it'd undercut the Evo and STI by about $4000. I think this car basically straddles gap between the Mazdaspeed3/GTI/Cobalt SS segment and that of the higher priced AWD compacts.
