Good move. They need something small that people buy because they like, not just because it is cheap.

I kinda hope we get the Trax at Chevrolet. The Groove could make for a good ultra small Pontiac or Buick.

I am not sure about having any Buick be a subcompact.

And at the cost of these very small cars, Pontiac would likely get a rebadge of one or the other.

I don't see the Groove fitting in well at either Pontiac or Buick. Plus Buick has never been about small cars.

Pontiac needs a mini Trans Am styled delta coupe to complement the Vibe IMHO.

I also imagine they will give us some sort of new design as the Trax and Groove might seem dated by 2011. Or maybe we will get the Trax since it is in Transformers 2

Well keep in mind that the article states that either car would grow quite a bit to meet US crash test standards (so it may not be subcompact).

HHR replacement maybe? We are due for a new one around 2011.

My understanding is that this new subcompact is going to be Aveo-sized - not huge, but not exactly a revolutionary microcar, either.

Sounds about right.

Aveo sedan = 169.7"
Aveo5 = 152.7"

Scion xB gen I = 155.3"
Scion xB gen II = 167.3"

Well the one for the US yes. The Beat is a whole class size smaller, probably why it won't be coming to the US, the market is just not ready for a car that small yet IMO.

It's almost amusing to see GM planning vehicles three years out, given their financial situation these days. It takes something of a leap of faith to assume the company will be around in the same form by then.

So they assume worst case and dont do anything??? Automotive lifecycle's dictate that they need to be working on the next model. Otherwise they are a gen behind and people buy other brands because of it. That would just make things worse it in the long run.
