Post Two things Ron Zarrella said I will never forget...

First one was at a show about two years ago he while looking at a W-body car (Monte, Impala, ect) smuggly said "Ya know...this chassis can be made RWD very easy".

Also he announced to the press about this time last year that "We are currently working on a RWD Monte Carlo replacement." I tried to get Robert Lane to publish it, but he didn't like publishing GM news very much (why we have GMI today )We know the next W-car won't be based off sigma...but could it be because they are planning on a RWD W-car? I honestly don't know....I have had people tell em straight up that the new Monte Carlo won't be based on Sigma....but there has been no talk of if it could be RWD

You know what else GM once "[was] working on"? A FWD Camaro. I don't think they can justify a RWD version of the W chassis.

I could never figure out what his intent was with that staement.

As for a RWD MonteCarlo....last year there were all sorts of quotes indicating people at Chevy, most notably Kurt Ritter, wanted that to happen. Haven't heard anything lately...I wonder why?

Well listening to all rumors and hearsay would make one believe that GM is transferring 90% of its vehicles to rear wheel drive...

This won't happen because it is not necessary and probably isn't cost effective. THere are a lot of people who prefer front wheel drive especially in colder northern climates, winter season.

Current W-body, being FWD, sells very well and IMO it doesn't need to be transferred to RWD. What about performance? Well there are many GTPs running 12's or low 13's. This satisfies most performance enthusiasts, and can be accomplished relatively easy.

Ever notice that you can take an average consumer, and put them in a domestic RWD car in the snow, and they get twitchy, and want FWD, but if you stick them in a BMW or Lexus, they have no qualms about driving it in less than ideal conditions?

I think that there is still a negative image of the big three still set in the minds of consumers. The only thing that can change that is a quality product. Comon GM...You can do it.
