Two seperate Mustang 05' GT track times.

Quoted from a GTO board.

Silver Dollar Raceway in Reynolds Georgia

You know those new 2005 Mustangs GTs? There were two there. I told myself that I wasn't leaving until I ran one for you guys!!! I talked to the black GT and he didn't want to run (his best was 14.42) but the white GT was all about running the goat. This was the last run for me and I didn't want to screw it up because we had three people video taping it! We line up and the tree lights up and we go. Here are our stats on the race:

Doc GTO / White 2005 GT
R/T-.085 / .337
60ft-2.16 / 1.99
330-5.878 / 5.807
1/8-8.870 / 8.985
mph-82.67 / 76.73
1000-11.434 / 11.735
1/4-13.593 / 14.046
mph-105.18 / 97.76

guy in the white 05GT usually runs a modded Cobra that runs high 11s so he can drive!

a couple of more GT's made dozens of passes between them all around the 14-14.5 at 94-98mph

anyway here is the vid = 4Mb
You have to listen to the announcer when he says the times, because the camera they are using couldn't focus in.

It also shows a race between a Black 05' GT and a 350z which was 14.24 (350Z) to 14.57 (GT).

I find that odd.Since MT did 13.6 with a auto.Either its cause the motors still tight, the drivers not adjusted yet or whatever.I must say mine feels as quick as my mach 1 did ,so lets wait till I hit the 1000 mile mark and I will report back.

By the way,excellent video

hmm was that GT a 5speed or an A5? Either way it was no 13.6 for A5 or 13.3 that people are saying for the 5speed. My LT1 still has some hope in it now!

BTW nice times in the GTO

Wow....wonder whats up with that? So far it seems that its just the first 3 gears that let the GT even come close to an LS1, after that its just slaughter.

Re: Two seperate Mustang 05' GT track times.

I think that is a fairly slow track is it not? I know the Atlanta Dragway up in Commerce North of this track is slow as hell, to the tune of .5 higher than you'd expect to see, wonder if this one is "slow" as well...

What mods did the GTO have to run a 13.5, if it's got a few bolt ons that tells us all we need to know....

Edit, found the mods list myself, the GTO in question had "JBA titanium coated headers/Randon-Tech midpipes/K&N Aircharger/Taylor 8mm Spiro-Pro wires/NGK TR-55 plugs/Diablo Tuner"

Silver Dollar is a pretty dead-on track. It's nothing like Commerce, the slowest track ever.

Re: Two seperate Mustang 05' GT track times.

Shouldn't a M6 GTO with headers, "midpipe", CAI, and a computer reprogram run a bit better than a 13.59 though, going by the standard "internet dragway" times generally posted?

I mean 14.3s-14.5s are on the slow end of things for 2003-2004 GTs, whats up with a pair of 05 GTs doing that badly with a best of 14.0 by supposedly non-newbie drivers? Perhaps they were autos, didn't see where anyone said...

yes because mustangs have always had to use quicker gears to overcoming their lack of power. it just shows in the mph

I defense of the Mustang....which is rare...look at that RT? Did he go into a coma at the light? And hes a good driver you say?
and that GTO with all thoes mods ran stock times...what gives? Where did you get the list of mods from?

But to bash the Mustang now...cause no way im gunna let this slide, you knew that...
with at sub 2 sec 60ft, thats pretty good, but the back 2 gears of the mustang kill this car. Any chance that the Auto could have gears spaced out better then the 5spd manual? Maybe the faster mustang will be the auto.

Like I said before...this car offers nothing that you coulnt get back in 1998...outside of the color changing dash.

From the original post this one references on ls1gto.com. In all fairness there is a GTO with a K&N only that ran a 13.79 the same night, not too far off what one might expect for a stock GTO so I don't know what's up... Still haven't heard if those were auto GTs or not, I guess if so that's not tooo bad...

Uh oh, it looks like the new GT's are not living up to the hype. It seems that my prediction is comming true. It is still too early to tell but we will see.

It should run times somewhere around LS1's...if motortrends non driving a$s's can get a 13.6 outta an auto no less they atleast gotta be good for low 13's....Lil note one of the GTO owners in that section here said he test drove one and it felt stronger then his LS1(might be there gearing)...think he ordered one on the spot

Since when was a good driver needed for an automatic? IMO, the MT time is a best case scenario time for an auto.

They used a 2400rpm brake stand launch and hooked. You can't do much better than that, seeing how the computer shifts for you. MTs ability to drive is irrelevant in this case.

I ran a bone stock 99 at Stanton that turned a 13.91 at 99+. I find it hard to believe that the new GT that is close in weight to the old car and has 45 more rwhp on average is slower than the old car.
