I recall Toyota had a big buyback campaign last year for Tacomas from the same timeframe that had the same frame rot problem. I am somewhat surprised they are not extending the same courtesy to Tundra owners. Perhaps is has something to do with their current economic sturggles.

My uncle had a 99 Tacoma with 100,000 miles that the dealer bought back this year for $12,000, he was quite happy with that.

Of course his next truck will be a Toyota cause he liked the service from the dealership.

Also remind him about the FJ Cruiser's frame problems.

First off clearly the owners are doing something to cause their Tundra and Tacomas to rust, or their FJ frames to bend, or for their Priuses to just takeoff and ram into walls.

I saw the 1st Tundra frame @ the Det_AutoShow. Rivets fix the frame cross members to the rails. Ford and GM did that decades ago. The guy @ the Toyota exibit did not want to talk to me.

the new tundra has problems with the spot welds on the fender lips separating due to improper welding. the inner structure also has numerous spot weld issues which cause phantom creeks throughout the truck. i have seen these first hand as i work at a large body shop. we also have seen body to frame mount problems with less then 15,000 miles on the new model.

toyota used to be good quality when their production numbers were low, but now that they are trying to compete with the big three, they have switched from quality to quantity. people will soon find out when things like this start to show up more frequently.

This is apparently a problem on the new Tundra as well. A friend of mine has an 08 Tundra, he has already had it checked for frame rot and Toyota has had to replace parts on both the front and the rear (he couldn't tell me much, he isn't a car guy). He has only had the truck for about a year and it has about 10K miles on it. The only reason Toyota replaced any parts is because his truck is still under warranty. He is also going to be taking it to a seperate mechanic to have it checked out, just in case. He has been less than impressed with his "Quality Toyota truck" so far.
