Toyota telling our government who should get tax breaks
Apparently they don't like the tax breaks the government was going to give on the Volt.

To Toyota:
"Here's a big bag of sand. And a hammer. Have fun."
Seriously, they've gotten their tax breaks ad infinitum, every time they've opened a new assembly plant. Just because they cannot bring out a *real* competitor to the Volt doesn't mean we have to bow down to them.

Actually the rumor was $7k, for all we know the real number was only $5k the whole time. Toyota was just being all but hurt because they didn't qualify. If they want to qualify just come up with a worthy competitor, otherwise they need to STFU.
I like this:
Hey mister wimmer, how bout we ask for the same tax incentive when the Volt goes on sale in Japan? Ohh wait thats right Japans goverment makes it very hard to set up shop in Japan using unfair taxes as a way to sell only home grown products...kinda unfair isn't it? To bad the regular person does not know how the Japanese goverment manipulates the consumer market over foreign cars there...why should we not do the same FOR OUR OWN ECONOMY AND COUNTRY
Toyota has done very well not having to fight in its home market..
“We believe consumer incentives should encourage all plug-in designs and allow the consumer market to select winners, not legislation,” Wimmer said.

I think if Toyota was in the same financial situation the Domestic brands are in they would also be getting some tax break help from our government. They should be glad they don't qualify. Trade with Toyota and Japan has never been fair or equal but this is one of the very few times the deal hasn't been fair to them. So they probably have a reason to gripe but they should also realize they have been getting help from the Japanese government for a long time.
GM also had a plug-in all electric vehicle way back... EV-1. No tax break there??? The Pri-Us is not a plug-in. Their plug-in was an add on after some left coasters asked for it. A lot of protectionism going on in the country of Japan. Maybe we should have protectionism here??? Also... remember the US cnc machine tool industry???

kinda hard to do when people think Toyota is an American brand..and the other thing is we as a people lost all pride in our own product.
Will the country only wake up to realize the fact after we've all lost our jobs, industries and way of life? The money flow out of this country at the current rate of transfer is only sustainable for so long.
