Toyota is now #1, Chevy #3
Because outside of us performance oriented buyers who follow that stuff (whom... and this is not an exaggeration... make up less than 5% of the total buying public), it isn't an issue. If you look at family car buyers, horsepower and a 1 grand price difference simply isn't in the top or even top 10 considerations.
More money for less MPG turns off a lot of buyers. Most people can't even tell you the HP of their engine.
Which is why the 2010-2013 Impalas will have deep deep discounts. G8 vs. 2010 Taurus is probably a better comparison.
In the North East people prefer FWD after decades of RWD + snow =
propaganda. A lot of older people won't even consider RWD.

Wow those numbers really paint the story of how bad the whole auto market is and unfortunately how far Chevy has fallen year over year. In bad times it's the bread and butter brands that need to pick up the slack. GM just doesn't seem to be getting that help from Chevy.
Not in Canada, unfortunately. GM fell to third spot behind Chrysler and Ford (Chrysler regularly outsells Ford up here). It's the first time GM has lost the crown since 1950.

Just goes to show that GM's most loyal of customers are uncertain about GM's immediate future.
How true that statement is.
That's why I can't understand the constant battering from the press on how GM is not into 'fuel efficient' product. Well, the car is an extension of one's personality... we're not all alike.

OK.
Consider this.
Camary sales February only: 34,914
Total combined 2009 sales of Malibu+Impala: 35,695
If you aren't willing to make your bread and butter cars (the vehicles that pays the bills and keeps the lights on, let alone funds anything else) a priority, then you really don't belong in the business.
That's like purposely deciding to get by with producing substandard work at the office at a time management is looking to layoff someone there.

The top 20 is especially confusing this time. Where the hell did the Wrangler and G6 come from? Also two of Chrysler's minivans are on there.
GuionM quoted a 2008 Toyota article.
Camry sales in February 2009 were 20,634.

Most people consider the Malibu Chevrolet's Camry competitor.

Someone explain why the LNF isn't available in the Malibu. Ecotech fuel economy and more power than HFV6. Add the Stage II kit and you've got 300 hp/340 ftlb and 30+ mpg. Price it the same as the HFV6 package.... what's the downside (other than it's FWD, of course)? I could definitely see this replacing my wife's Impala in a few years.
