Re: TopGear test CTS-v

Here are the links with the video. I will update this post as more stuff gets uploaded.

http://rapidshare.de/files/2535785/T...CTS-V.wmv.html Vid is 25.6meg and 11min long.

http://rapidshare.de/files/2535974/C...ouble.wmv.html Vid is 9meg, 4min long.

To download, go to the bottom of the page and select the 'free' button. Scroll to the bottom of the next page, wait for the countdown to finish then right click, save as on the link provided. Both files are Windows Media 9.

Alt. CTS-V download is http://s4.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=35...Q0UOURI3H4ZSLD but I don't know how long that will last. (probably not long)

LOL, the way Clarkson talks, you'd think Britain actually has their own car manufacturer.
That said, I love the wit of that show. Compared to Topgear, C&D TV is like Home Shopping Network.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

Typical crap.

In every objective measure the car kicks the ever-loving snot out of the European competition...

And then the word "ephemeral" comes up and "it just feels cheap" and a bunch of subjective nonsense.

Here... let me summarize...

Caddillac kicks the ever-loving snot out of the Audi ringer brought to embarrass it... so that have to find something else to complain about, and since they can't find anything objectively wrong with the car (apart from a price they happen to be complaining about... although we didn't hear the price of the Audi, did we?), so they start coming up with subjective excuses.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

They are extremely biased against American cars, though I must admit I find their humor quite amusing. They point out a lot of interesting points along the way that make the show worthwhile. Like they knocked the interior and the suspension of the C6, but they did say it was a lot of fun and quite powerful, and the numbers from the track pass dont lie. Same with the Monaro. They complained about silly things and called it a day.

But they're just bitter they dont even have any of their own car companies anymore. I want to see them deal with the C6 Z06...

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

i expect to see lots of pissed off people demanding to see the same sort of nut hugging that happens to the car here in the states.

one thing to remember here for those that expect that, they have cars available there that are in everyway better than anything available here. they like comfort to go along with their performance. the caddy touches on that, just not to the level that a european car does.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

Yea.. They are used to seeing alot better materials in cars.. and have also sat in alot more performance oriented cars.. (like the TVR 350, Noble, etc).. But I think they sometimes unfairly expect the best of both worlds, especialyl at the lower pricepoint that the Vette and CTSv brings them at.

IMO, for us GM fans in America, a BIG factor in a car is its COST...

For example the Vette... For a $50k flat over performance car, nothing car really touch it. Its fast, and its relativley confortable, and has gadgets like heated seats, nav, and enen HUD..

But looking strickly at the $50k price tag, the interiors could be a bit better..

and perhaps for a strict performance car, it could be more purpose built (compared to something like a Noble, TVR, etc)

But come on.. a $50k car with a better interior is not going to have the guts of the Vette (but some do come close)

and those strict performance cars.. are no where as livaeble every day, and usualyl are much more expensive.

So its kinda wierd.. In one way, they complain about interiors because of the price of the car.. but when it comes to performance, prices doesn't matter.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

I cant say that the CTSv has a great interior, because it really doesn't - but I have to keep in mind that it is a first generation car. It's a nice interior, but you can see how much Caddy learned from the CTS when you sit in the STS. I'd imagine the next CTS will probably have an interior that's nearly as nice as the STS, which would take away the knocks on the CTS in its' price range.

That aside, if I had $50k right now the spend on a car the CTSv would be the only thing I'd look at. It is dead on with its styling and drivetrain and has the creature comforts I'd want out of a car I can autox on Sunday and take clients to a 5 star restaraunt on Monday in.

What really excites me is how good the next CTSv will be. Look at the huge influence the C5R had on the C6 Z06 - carbon fiber body pannels, 427 engine, dry sump oil system, six piston brake calipers, friggin titanium connecting rods... GM took a lot of technology right out of the C5R and ploped in the the C6 Z06. Now realize that as much as we all love Sigma, aside from blasts in Germany, Caddy didnt have any actual racing expirence with the Sigma platform and they still managed to put out a very competitive platform. Imagine what they're going to do with Sigma II (name?) and the amount of knowledge they got from the three CTSv-R cars in Speed World Challenge?

So what, he think it's cheap, how many alfa romeos and bentleys have you driven around this year? When was the last time you drove an italian or french car? There is no doubt they dislike every american car, thing is though, I think the review was very good and it sort of surprised jeremy. He just wishes it wasn't so cheap. He doesn't want cadilacs plastic body panels, a stock t-56, GMs leather isn't exactly the leading standard, dark hard plastics, cheap buttons, hard plastic handrests, it doesn't exactly exude luxury which is what they're expecting at 45,000 pounds ($80,000-90,000)

If the price was 27,000 pounds ($50,000 - same price as it is here) there is no way they wouldn't fall in love with the car imo.

I've driven both Italian and French cars with some regularity, and I can tell you that to a vehicle they were turds and exhorbitantly expensive.

Yeah... frigging Renault makes a great car... Fiat too...

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

Well he seemed to really like the performance, just not a lot of the details. I think he was fairly surprised in the race with the Audi. I'd like to see the CTSv's numbers for that course, NOT IN THE RAIN!
