Re: TopGear test CTS-v

I found the review.

It'll be interesting what they think about the cts-v when the new episode airs tonight. They have an article on the cts-v online (written up jan. 2004) which is a pretty glowing review. Doesn't really matter it's just a show about cars, everyone has different opinions when it comes to cars.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

Haha! I saw the Top Gear review of the C6, JC is a very funny man and finding any fault/quirk on a car and making fun of it is his job. He does it to all cars, its his style.

We brits love american cars, and as they were originally built for going in a straight line fast, they kind of have this stigma (even the new cars) of not being able to do corners.

The C6 got the job done and it put down a good lap time, and lets face it, it beat the Mitsubishi Evo which is good enough for us.

Don't take Jeremys comments to heart (I've been reading through the old anti-top gear threads) and enjoy the show.

It was a c6, but it was the z51 I believe.

Even so, the z06 will be brutal.

Unless I'm mistaken he compared the C6 suspension to that of a horse drawn cart.

Methinks a fiber reinforced plastic leaf spring is just as "advanced" as a steel coil spring. He was speaking of suspensions, not springs.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

I'm going to laugh my *** off when the Z06 is a top 5 contender with it's "leaf spring" technology. That old bastard will have to eat every word. I liked the younger one though.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

Well, I have just watched this ep, so do you want to know the result?

I can also cut out the CTS-v part if someone can host it.

Basically......

Clarkson: "This car is fun, balanced, taught and on top of all that it is very well equiped."

"For drivers this is a great car, but their are a few problems. Beep, beep, its to big, beep, to expensive, beep, the gearbox is rubbish, beep, and only LHD" (the beeping is the car, he hates how it beeps so much)

He wasn't sure about the G meter as if your pulling some Gs you should probably be watching the road.

He complains that it doesn't feel like a quality product "feels cheap". He really likes it but the 'cheapness' spoils it.

They said to buy the Monaro as it has the same engine etc it also has a cheap interior but thats ok because it is cheap (unlike the CTS-V in the uk).

Topgear Top Tip: "If you want a Caddilac, buy a Vauxhall"

The Caddy did a lap of the track (in wet conditions) and got a time of 1.33.4. Of interest was that the Monaro (old HSV GTO, 5.7l 385hp) also did a wet lap last year in the same conditions and got 1.33.9. The Caddy also had shocking wheel hop off the line.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

I thought that was pretty damn lame to test on their test track in the rain (standing water on the track, VERY wet). How many of the other rankings are in the wet and which are in the dry?

That makes the comparison to the other cars pure "rubbish"...

He also emphasized that the CTS-V feels cheap, not worth the money...

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

I have just re-encoded both the full CTS-V segment (11min 13sec, 25.6meg) and the Clarkson Ford GT problems segment (4min, 9 meg). If anyone has web space to host these PM me so I can upload them asap.

Re: TopGear test CTS-v

I have a ton of these videos and here are the ones that I can think of which were in the wet:
Gallardo - 1.25.8
Porsche 911 GT3 - 1.27.2
Dodge Viper SRT-10 - 1.28.5
Porsche 911 Carrera S - 1.28.9
Honda NSX Type R - 1.31.6
Ferrari 575 - 1.35.2
Aston Martin Vanquish - 1.36.2

Also you should try to find the 5th gear test of the vette versus viper. Tiff Needle is a much better driver than Jeremy Clarkson and had some decent things to say about the vette.
