Clarkson is not one to beat around the bush.

Can't comment personally as I've never driven a Mustang.

Would be intresting to see comments from a Ford Forum on this .

Clarkson is the man. Even if he railed on a future Camaro like that, Id be fine, but that was just flat out awesome.
He loved the 2 valve, OHV LS1 in the Monaro!! And that was the 305hp model!

again.. LS1>4.6.

But I can hear it now... "he should test the Cobra!!" He would tear that car apart for just abotu everything else, I dont think you want a Euorpean testing that Cobra.

Yeah, that was pretty funny. I know of a few GTs around here with owners that think they're big shots. They are though, as there isn't any other competition in my little community.

I remember that Monaro video, what was the link to that?

While the 2V 4.6 isn't the best motor out there, that review didn't tell me anything about why it's technically "rubbish". I laughed at the 9 MPG claim...where did he get that?

The English press has long been known to be a hater of US cars.

He said if you "push it". It is technically true, my roommate used to smoke the tires in his 95 GT and drive around the city in low gears just to hear the rumble and he got 9mpg one week.

If anyone gets 9 mpg in their 95 Mustang V8 "pushing" it, then they have either done some mods or there's something seriously wrong. I was lucky if I got below 20 mpg "pushing" it in my 97. Even my modified 67 gets 16 mpg at its worst.

I've driven a 225HP version of the 4.6. Granted I wasn't too impressed by it. At the time I had my 98 Camaro V6.

I'm not sure if I'd go so far as to call it complete rubish though. That's going a bit far.

The 265HP version isn't bad and it's what I would have thought the previous GT should have felt like.

I do remember being blown away by the LT-1 when I first got into one!!

Alright, now we are going to hear all these stories "Well, I never got less than X mpg".

Obviously he could've exaggerated. But getting 12mpg is not IMPOSSIBLE for the Mustang. My LT1, on some bad days (driving around pushing, idling in traffic, all city driving) could get 14 mpg. Not that hard to accomplish. Normally, though, it would get around 18 mpg city driving.

Another thing, did you see that he was NOT testing a Mustang? Wasn't that a Falcon? Which is heavier (I'm assuming around 3800 lbs), so 9mpg is not that far off.

British are known to beat down any cars that are not british. At the same time, most british cars dont' use such "ancient" technologies as Ford or GM.

Take the video with a grain of salt.

K&N and cat-back is all he had. I've gotten 11mpg in my LT1, it is easy.

Step 1) Do NO highway driving
Step 2) Keep it in first gear for as long as you can
Step 3) leave it is gear (1st or 2nd) to slow down so you can hear that nice V8 rumble.
Step 4) Don't be affraid to leave a little rubber at every stop light

9-12mpg is very easy, I have also done as good as 27mpg on a trip with 90% hwy 10% city driving. LS1 is a little better on Gas than the LT1

Actually, the car is a British MG:

Now, for the kicker. It's a transverse engined FWD car (called Rover), but it's constructed in a way that it's easily configured for RWD, which is the car in question. Pretty cool.

As for the British press, they are pretty dead against any American cars (the Monaro is Australian, BTW), no matter how good they are, and this guy's typical.

Makes you want to ask these guys "So, tell me.. what 'British' car companies do you guys have left, anyways?"

Ouch! I bet that would hurt. Of course you extend that comment to include what British car companies are left - that aren't run by the Germans. There's some salt for those wounds.
