thoughts on the new Titian

I was planing on getting a Chevy 1500 or a Colorado (both extended cab) but the new Titan might take their place as the desirable truck, when my current one dies. The Titan has more power and cost less then the 1500 (slightly more then the Colorado).

Have you heard anything good or bad about the Titan.

You shouldnt really buy an import truck, its their first try into the full size truck demographic, and they arent really known for their trucks. I'm sure you can find a cheaper 1500 w/rebates than the titan, and still have the bowtie on the grill. Trust me on this one america = king of pickups.

It has a lower MSRP than the Silverado, but don't forget GM prices trucks high so they can give you a $3000 rebate. The Nissan is 305HP and the Silverado is 295HP, 10 peak HP isn't that big of a deal, The Chevy 5.3L has a great torque curve.

Colorado is much smaller than both trucks and will probably be $5000 cheaper than both with simalar options.

I'd test drive all 3 first. The new F-150 is probably a better truck than both the Nissan and Silverado.

I feel like slamming it because its a Japanese import. Its probably ok, but buy yourself an American truck!! Chevy, Ford or Dodge...they're all good ones.

I'm guessing your time frame for actually buying is next year.

Regardless, it is important to actually go talk to a dealer from both Nissan and Chevrolet to find out what the deal actually is. I'd be very surprised to see a Titan undercut a comparably equipped Silverado in price... matter of fact, I'll eat my hat if it actually happens.

The Titan might not undercut a Chevy in price, but it is definately nicer. The interior is many steps ahead and the truck overall just offers more features. This truck is right up there with the new F-150. The truck also has a really nice engine.

I found it a bit sad that the Titan with the V8 is just as quick as the Silverado SS to 60mph.

I think the 5.3 will be boosted to 310 hp in 2005.
Keep that in mind.

And is the dash in the Titan the same as the Armada? If it is, then the GM trucks have it all over the Titan. I HATE the interior in the Armada. It has a plasticy look to it. The design is too concept car looking. Too gimmick-y. The new F-150 is the same way.

I'd definately stick to the GM products.

Titan Interior vs. Silverado Interior

I dont think its much of a contest there.

As for powerplants, we all know about the 5.3 Liter in the Chevy, but Nissans new engine makes
305 horsepower. 379 lb-ft of torque, with 90% kicking in below 2,500 rpm and a full 80% on tap at a class-leading 1,000 rpm.*
Truthfully, if the GM truck doesnt cost less, something is seriously wrong.

Nissans more "American" than Chevy, atleast according to this.

http://www.autoextremist.com

To quote:
"If last week's Rant about Nissan's aggressive pricing of their new Titan pickup raised a lot of eyebrows and temperatures, this little tidbit will add an interesting dimension to the discussion. At a time when some Detroit-based manufacturers are building trucks in Mexico and Canada, the story behind the new Nissan Titan is an interesting one. The Titan was styled in San Diego (penned by a woman originally from Livonia, MI), developed in Los Angeles, engineered in Detroit (80% of the engineering work was done right here in suburban Farmington Hills, MI) and built in Mississippi - with engines made in Tennessee. Most if not all of the product planning and research was done by American-born citizens, some of whom had done stints at Detroit-based car companies and some who are even ex-Detroiters. So conceivably, to some people's eyes, the new Titan pickup could be considered even more "American" than some of the trucks from the Detroit-based car companies. It's a small world after all, Bunkie... "

Granted this is only my opinion, but the Titan is the ugliest truck I've ever seen. The interior looks ok, but still a bit odd. I don't care for the Silverado's interior either, though. But at least the exterior isn't nearing Aztek-level fugliness.

I cant comment on the truck overall but i like the silverado interior better than the titan.

I also like it better than the new f-150's interior. I think people rave about the f-150's interior because the previous f-150's interior sucked and could only be improved upon.

One thing important to note about the new F-150 interior is that it has multiple interiors base on the trim level you get.

Hmmm, I always thought the GM interiors were the most "flat" and bland. The only truck interior i liked less than the GM's were the older Dodge trucks.

Just remember something about Nissan's pricing strategy on the new Titans - they are going to sell them below cost just to get them out there and undercut the competition. They will actually be losing money on these things at first.
