i don't visit here much since i total my z28 so i may be out of the loop but has anyone ever thought of GM coming out with a all wheel drive car and slappin the camaro/firebird name on it
to keep up with the imports. I think it would be cool althought probley a bit pricey

Maybe a all new name would better serve a car like that.

Whereas it used to be that they had to keep up to us.As for AWD combined with the Camaro/Firebird nameplate...Meh, I don't like that idea. Darth is right, give it it's own name, something cutting edge like...Nova or Chevelle.

Seriously, A GM AWD sports coupe/car should begin a new chapter, not continue an old one.
I got it! Since the Sunfire used to be called Sunbird, why not call this new car the Firefire?

I thought the Grand AM was going AWD with a real powerful V6 in the next few years. Like its GXP version? This should fill the void if it actually does make production.

One other thing to remember about AWD sports cars.... think of the ones that have FAILED:
Stealth/3000GT ~ gone.
Talon/Eclipse ~ gone.
Brain Freeze...
I think there are a few more....

Yeah but I think the market is still out there. Look at the WRX. That car is very popular with my generation and while its not a very high production car I belive it makes money.

It's odd, though that those two DSM's failed... they really had a corner on that market at the time, too...

That’s true, I wonder why they failed? I think we should look into this more. GM really needs to get a car in this market. I like to watch the Rally Series and the WRX and Focus tearing it up out there. But I always wonder why GM hasn’t shown any interest in these races. It might be kind of cool to see a Grand AM GXP out there....hmmmm

Not saying you are wrong, but if that is indeed the case, then we should expect the GTO to do fabulous and never see another Camaro...

), were extremely heavy ( the same Stealth weighed in at over 3,800lbs
!), and no one was buying them.Eagle Talons with turbo & AWD were running about $20,000 base price in 1995 (I'm guessing that's what much faster Z28s & Mustang GTs were starting at back then), so I'm guessing that's what slowed them down as well.
In both instances, these were AWD cars that youth were interested in, yet because of cost, the only people who bought them off the showrooms were those who had the money & were interested in the "latest" high tech cars. I think WRX is different because it's very low priced for what you get (the yen isn't what it used to be, and Subaru isn't exactly Toyota, Honda, or even Pontiac in it's assembly quality).
Being that the folding top, turbocharged, AWD Mitsubishi 3000GTs cost over $40,000 in 1995, it will be interesting to see what the upcomming Grand Am AWD convertible will cost & how GM keeps it's price down.
