Starting price for the Dodge Magnum, including destination charges will be $22,495 (Magnum SE). Goes on sale in May.
Chrysler 300 will be starting at $23,595 and will be out in April.
These prices are for the base 2.7 V6.

Not too bad. I guess these are changing markets a bit. The Magnum replaces the Intrepid but seems to be more pricey so I guess it is trying to move upscale. Same goes for the 300C that replaces the Concord, but doesn't it also replace the 300M as well. If that is the case then I guess they are trying to fall somewhere in between the 300M and the Concord.

My biggest concern for Dodge is... can they really expect to retain all the sedan sales that Interpid generated... with only a wagon ??

That is the same thing that I thought. I would except the Magnum to be bought by people that are looking for something sportier than a minivan and that still has a lot of utility. I think Dodge still needs a Sedan built off that platform.

Maybe they are assuming (or hoping) that sedan buyers will shift over to Chrysler brand and buy the 300C...??
I kinda liked the Magnum at NAIAS, and I'm not really a wagon kind of guy. Much nicer than the old-man 300. The thing about both of these cars is that I think many people will have to have the Hemi....both of them are HUGE vehicles and will have a hard time getting out of their own way with the tepid 2.7. Guess that just means more profits for Chrysler, which was probably the point.
I think these cars would have been better off if they had the 3.5 as the base and used the 4.7 in the SXT models. I think it would make the cars a lot more attractive. You could have a 4.7 Magnum for under $28000!

Darth, or anybody, know if there are still any rumors swirling about a Dodge Charger? Perhaps the later addition of a Charger would provide more volume for Dodge on this platform, but I'm with you and Z28x. I think a Magnum sedan would be a good idea (though I really like the wagon, actually). Dodge and Chrysler have, at least to me, very different images and I'm not sure you're going to convince someone who wants a Dodge R/T that a Chrysler 300C is the "same thing" regardless of identical platform, powertrains, etc.

GuionM might be the best to give us an update on Charger... he seems to have some good D/C contacts!
Even though the 2.7 is not the best engine to put in those cars, it won't be that bad with the 5sp that is behind it. It will still be a dog, but I don't think it will be as bad as some people thing. Maybe if they don't sell very many they will think about droping it and putting the 4.7 in the cars.
