I wonder how much of that supply is 04 vs 05 models? How big of a hurry would GM be to ship out 05s with a 300 day supply of 04s?

I bet more people stopped and looked at a Camaro on Chevy lots than they did the SSR. You know, before the Camaro design got to be almost 10 years old.

 

A Colorado SS would be a great truck to switch a buyer to who couldnt afford the SSR.

 

I'm gonna give Chevy some credit for the SSR. I think it took a good amount of rarely seen *****, to bring the SSR to market....and for that, I'll give some respect. We could debate wether it was executed correctly...or if it was even the right vehicle at the right time....but to me, that pretty much misses the point.

We're always saying, (well, me anyways), how Chevy is one long yawn, how they never seem to take any risks, how they're too conservative and too boring....

But the one time they grow the chicones to lay it on the line, in the way they did with SSR, they still get grief by some of us.

I'd like to see some of the same attitude that created the SSR, in the rest of the Chevy line.

 

If it makes you feel any better I thought the Prowler was just as stupid as well as a much worse "crime". That car had a sweet chassis and a Intrepid motor. It was overpriced as well.

I absolutely love the SSR. If it weren't for the outrageous sticker price, I'd have bought one by now.

But then that's my whole problem with the SSR and the GTO... yes, they are cool cars in their own right; however, when you're that close to Corvette territory in terms of the price... why bother?

 

I think its a nice vehicle and has great perfomance, but would never consider buying it.

 

i was driving with my sister the other day and we saw one. her comment was that it looked like a *****. i didn't ask her to elaborate if she meant that as a compliment or as a pun, but it was funny either way.

what isn't funny is how slow this thing is selling. what needs to happen I think is for this truck to drop out and for an El Camino to step in.

 

I think that is the solution. Make a fixed roof for $32K That is a few hundred pounds lighter that will eat Lightnings for lunch.

 

The GTO is a full $10,000 less than a 'vette. How does that qualify as "close"?

 

I believe the prowler had 3.5L V6 rated at 250 HP, which was also in 300M and Concorde.

Intrepid had 2.7L motor.

You're right. I was thinking more of the SSR vs. Corvette (~$2k) ... and for some reason thinking back to what dealers were first asking for 2004 GTO's.

 

I agree...a hardtop version for $32k would be ideal, with the convertible $38k loaded...not $48k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

With the LS2 and a stick, I thought this thing was saved! Is it possible the hold up is all the '04s still sitting there because people know how much better the '05 is? I would never buy it based on price alone, but really do like it. But at a Vette price? No way...

 

To this day, I cannot figure out how anyone ever thought a customer would walk into a dealership, see a Corvette and an SSR sitting there at basically equivalent prices and say:

"Just gotta have that SSR."
