SS a "solid" possibility for production...
.... according to this article:
http://www.auto.com/industry/conce8_20030308.htm
I know this is just some journalist spewing opinion, but I would like to off the following as my proposed reactions, pending the aprroval of the program:
1) At least is isn't another damned truck... so that's good.
2) Hey! Remove two doors and shorten the thing by about a foot and you might have a real sports car there! Alternately, let's just call it a Chevelle.
3) If this thing gets 430hp, I can expect Corvette to have more... so that's good.
4) I am beginning to get the feeling that GM will do ANYTHING... $40,000 retro trucks, SS trucks without the oats to compete with the Lightning, a $40,000 PT Cruiser, importing cars from Austrailia, etc.... AS LONG AS they can avoid building a Camaro.

Looks more like a Chevelle.
I hope that thing never goes into production unless it's fixed as PX described. I'd like to see a Chevelle again thats done right (not like the GTO) but that will be a few years from now if it happens.
Guion I know you have an "idea"
of what the next Corvette looks like, don't tell me it looks like that?!

I still think it's a concept that shows the design theme (minus the grill) of the next Corvette.
I'm almost certain of it!

Define "design theme".

Production potential: Solid. Chevy already has committed to building the SSR, a roadster-truck with plenty of retro appeal, that goes on sale later this year. But, with the Camaro gone from Chevy's lineup, there's a real window of opportunity to reach performance-loving Chevy buyers who don't want to spend $45,000-$50,000 on a Corvette
So how does Chevy build a 430 HP sedan riding on Corvette running gear for significantly less money than a 'vette?
That's just it, most of the tooling for the running gear has already been developed and paid for by the 'vette. The Bowling Green plant also has the room to build about 12k of these guys a year (thanks to the XLR expansion). These two factors could significantly cut the SSs production cost. Under 30K?, I doubt it. For 35k, I think GM could pull it off.
I really dont think the SS was anything other than a "styling" preview of a Camaro or Corvette . The front clip and the rear tail light section scream 70 Camaro , but at the same time I see alot of early 3rd gen vette ...toss up
Hmmm , they can't use the Camaro name on a new product at this time , so why not simply call it an SS and at the same time hype the line of SS vehicles that will be coming to the market . Give it 4 doors , who would even guess . Could GM be trying to use an already engineered C4 IRS in a 5th gen ? That car to me is nothing but big ? .
Its just theory on my part , but think about it , it makes alot sense . Another thing I noticed in a Motor trend article is a GM guy said this "would" sell for under $30K . Just one more reason to think it IS what it doesnt appear be . Sooooo , I bet you will will see SS in production , but not with 4 doors and on a much lighter chassis , but with that C4 based rear end

I doubt it, there is no way the Corvette design team would have went for something like that.

What would be the best way to try out a Corvette design theme under our noses without sending tounges waging about it being a Camaro (though some here have streached it pretty far) as well as a Corvette? Make it a 4 door, increase it's size, and try out an interior aimed for a different model (2006 Impala?).
Makes sense, because the C6 is supposed to be "influenced by Corvettes of the 60s".
