Spinoff thread: Why is Chevy killing Cobalt SS?
Who said we're killing it?
Yes - some will get the 'sport' moniker --
.......but the SS will be back -- and it won't be gone for long.
............and it will kick ***.................and take names........

Damn you Scott!!
I would assume that with the new Cobalt coming in 09, that they will possibly launch all models in its first year? This should work well, as I dont see Dodge releasing the SRT4 Caliber yet.
Wonder if the HHR will be released first, kind of as a test bed for the drivetrain, to test out any problems that there might be.

When I was at GM I told a certain Reuss that the car that became the Cobalt should be a turbo over a s/c from the start and did they listen to the punk college co-op kid noooo....
Not saying anything would've changed but as we've seen the tuner crowd likes turbo's over supercharging.

And with a (choke, gack!) automatic, too. I'd love to have a two door turbo Cobalt with a 5 or 6 speed manual, but my wife and son require otherwise at this point in my life. If I could get a Cobalt sedan with a turbo and a 6 speed auto with paddles on the steering wheel, a performance suspension, 4 wheel discs and a subtle appearance package, that would be my next car.
They don't have to call the sedan SS, they can reserve that for the coupe, just a "Sport" with an option for the turbo would be fine with me

Nice. I just hope they fix the wheel hop problem. The current ones blow up if you try to launch them and rock hard engine mounts make them shake like an earthquake.
On a side note, I figure this is a good place to ***** some pics of my car out. The IRL and SS are really neat cars. At a recent porsche club track day I was considerably faster than the base porsches. My IRL only has the GM stage 2 kit. The suspension and brakes are stock and it was very well mannered.
