No one is saying that the Miata isnt a great sports car....its just that most of there owners are gay. Like I said, 99% of Miata drivers that I see are either female, or are gay. Get over it, thats what I see. No one is bashing its ability to race or making fun of anyone or calling anyone names. We are talking about the majority who owns the cars, and most of them are in fact gay.

I previously owned both a '97 as well as a '99 Miata..In fact I traded in my '94 TransAm for the '99 Miata. That makes me gay??? Even when I have a wife and 2 young kids???...Al and Sneaky said so, so I must be

No one is calling anyone gay. Dont get all touchy.
Just like the Camaro and Firebird has a stereotype, so does the Miata.

My vote would have to go to the Lotus Elise.

Re: Something for you Audi TT fans

Though I wouldn't own one, I wouldn't call Miata gay. It's a nice little sports car, and I understand they are a blast to drive.

I just wouldn't want to be in one when someone yacking on a cell phone in their Tahoe or Explorer decides to change into my lane without looking or signaling.

But take it from someone who lives near the San Francisco Bay area, the percentage of Miata drivers being gay are far far lower than those drivers of Beetles, Audi TTs, and Land Rovers..... yes, Land Rovers.

Ok, so the best selling sports car of all-time has a predominantly gay owner base? What you perceive or hold as an opinion isn't fact.

I'm an owner, straight, and engaged! Oh, to be in the minority...

The Elise is very pure, no doubt (I'd take one in a nanosecond), but it is less pure simply because it deviates from the formula of the original sports cars made by Austin Healey, Triumph, MG, etc. in that it is a mid-engine car.

So, every time you see a Miata owner who is male, you pull him over and ask him whether he prefers male or female?

C'mon now...gimme a break. I'm not all PC and stuff, but this is an asinine statement you made. Grassroots Motorsports Magzine is a great magazine, and they have done a couple Miata build-ups now, and I dare say these guys aren't sitting there contemplating if there new project car labels them as flamers

Lets be real here...you have no clue what you're referring to. 99% of Miata drivers female or gay? Get real...

The Miata is a great little car, and if I wasn't anti-import, I may have even considered one. The Solstice is a car I REALLY want, and I'm not sitting here contemplating if the guy next to me in traffic is curious about my orientation...

And in case anyone is wondering, a look at my Z28 pretty much firms up where my preference lies My girlfriend can verify this as well. But close-minded comments like that just **** me off a little...especially about a cool car.

A Beetle on the other hand???

There are probably alot of insecure, straight, audi TT owners, who used to love their cars, looking at them today and saying "I can't drive this anymore".

Usualy when they have a rainbow marker on there car, it pretty much gives it away. Id say that most Miata owners are female, then gay males.

Re: Something for you Audi TT fans

I will bet, that if you give a list of about 20-30 cars with the Miata on the list and you ask, "What car do you think is driven by the most gay people", I bet that a very large majority would pick the Miata as number one.

So, does this mean that a strait person can't like a Miata, of course not. Does this mean that anyone who drives a Miata is gay, nope. All I am saying is that this car has a large gay following, and women love this vehicle too, this is a fact.

Also, I still dispute the claim that the Miata is "the most pure sports car around today". You know, vehicles change over the decades and so does the definitions of those vehicles. I think I am going to go tell Farrari that they are doing it all wrong and to take cues from the Miata because the cars they are making are poser sports cars.

Saying its the most pure sports car doesn't mean that its the only way sports cars should be made, or that its the fastest, or best handling, or best looking. Its just the one that is most true to the cars that created the category in the first place. Over the years, the category has been expanded (by various degrees depending on who you talk to) to include fixed roof cars, 4 seat coupes, high performance variants, cars with engines placed in the middle or back, and even cars with a second set of mini doors. Of all sports cars out today, the miata is closest to the original formula - unmodified, untainted, and undiluted - purity by definition!
