I can see the Challenger more as an American Monaro (modest production luxury GT) instead of a direct model for model competitor for the high volume and low price Camaro or Mustang.
I can see Chrysler fitting the ability to produce no more than 10-15K of these annually in their already cramped Brampton plant, and marketing these cars as competitors for the GTO, the Cobra, and to a lesser extent a V6 grand tourer in their base models.
I don't think the Challenger is meant to go toe to toe with Mustang and Camaro (as a budget performance car) anymore.
Again, we'll see soon enough.

How different is the final really going to be? We don't know, but I get the feeling that concept is pretty much what we're going to see at NAIAS. If I'm wrong, I'm wrong, but it seems like GM has no more cards to play, so they're back pedaling.

You think only old people are into old Muscle cars eh? Alright. I'm sure nobody who wasn't around in the 60's likes that darned retro new Mustang eh? Wait....
This car makes an impact to everyone I show it to. The only guys I know who liked the Camaro followed it up with "If it has an LS2 and a 6 speed, I don't care what it looks like."
Hopefully GM pulls something out of their hat by NAIAS, because that concept going around is not going to wow anyone compared to stuff like this Challenger or even the Mustang that'll be a few years old by the time Camaro is out.

It seems like we're setting up for a situation in which hard-core retro = Challenger, more modern interpretation = Camaro, and somewhere inbetween = Mustang.
Personally, I think that if the GM car is NOT a pre-production model, and NOT ready in 12-18 months, they've lost me to the Challenger.

The new Challaner is going to be on a 116" wheelbase vs 120 for the Charger. It is going to be a 2 door and lighter than the Charger. Chrysler had better find a plant to build them, because demand is going to be HUGE.
Note to DC: Please include a telescopic steering column so us old farts with beer bellies can fit, or make the front seat tracks go all the way back until it hits the back seat. There arent going to be too many young people trading in their $5000 LT1 Z28s for a $35000 Challenger RT, so remember us middle aged folks that can afford one.

Since this car will probably be on a LX chassis, I could see the low production. I would think that once the LY, next gen LX, chassis comes out that they would put the Challenger into full swing production.
