Solstice Wont Sell Here In Oregon

So i went to the Pontiac dealer close to my house. Looked at the new Solstic, and what did i see? A 37,999 price tag . The sales person told me that there is only going to be 15,000MADE and thats why there is a 16,000DOLLAR mark up. They did the same thing with the GTO and they wonder why there damn cars dont sell. Lord a can't even imagine what kind of mark up we are going to see when (if) the 5th gen comes out. Sorry for the rant but 37k for a glorified miata is a little much....

WTF? Thats just stupid. All I can do is just shake my head right now.

And I’m positive they are going to make more than 10000 of them. Geez in a few years it would be nice to pick a slightly used one up around 16 grand. Not pay a 16 grand mark up.

Wasn't there a big issue earlier about GM not allowing markups on the Solstice?

Unfortunately, GM can't do a damned thing about it.....franchise laws and all.....but they did send out a letter pleading with dealers to NOT do this...for the future of Pontiac if nothing else.

This guy ought to be called out on every forum on the web for being a crook.....

What about saturn? I dont know about franchise laws (at all) but i would assume that in order for someone to start and run a franchise, they must meet a certain standard of rules and regulations that company sets. I hope they can do something about it. this REALLY PISSES ME OFF

you're absolutely correct. GM in no way endorses or approves of dealers adding markup to vehicles. But as Mr. Harden points out, we are prohibited by federal law from telling a dealer at what price he or she can sell a car or truck. It's called Anti-trust.

We realize the bad will it creates.........and it's absurd for someone to have to pay that kind of money for a Solstice.

I'm sure a semi-anonymous letter from a Mr. F. Bod Father explaining the idiocy of this dealers actions and possible reprocussions could be quite convincing if delivered by couple NFL sized goons in a black suburban.

Re: Solstice Wont Sell Here In Oregon

Well, I look at this in 2 ways
One way of course is how dare this dealer add such an amazing mark up to a vehicle that was pushed through GM's suits because of its pricing, and how it would attract people. I also get upset because GM has promised value pricing on all 06's and future cars, and 37k for a 22k car isnt what I like to call value pricing.
On the other hand, Toyota's Prius goes for WAY WAY WAY over sticker, and people are lining up to pay even more just so they can say they are saving the world. People are plunking down almost 40k for what ammounts to be a Corolla with an electric motor.
My only problem is that GM dealers start out high, and then throw in the rebates where the Prius's mark up was gradual as demand picked up. This and many other Pontiac dealers are stunting the growth of this car by tacking on an extra 16 grand. It is absurd. Im sure that GM could take legal action if it got out of hand. This IS thier life blood, and if the dealers are gunna choke off the finest cars GM can make, then what future does GM have?
I find it hard to belive that GM has zero control of this. In any way shape or form, they cant do jack? So dealers can run GM into the ground, and GM is supposed to just to sit back and watch? Bullsh*t. There has to be a "Go F yourself Mr.Dealer" clause out there somewhere.

Blame the dealer, not GM.

Re: Solstice Wont Sell Here In Oregon

Could GM reduce or eliminate that dealers allocation, or would that be too close to anti-trust as well?
