Solstice GXP Blurb in Car and Driver
Solstice GXP Blurb in Car and Driver
In Car and Driver's coverage of the L.A. Auto show, they have a little write-up on the Solstice GXP, with its 260 hp 2.0L DI turbo. They have this to say:
12.9 seconds?! I don't think so. When has anyone seen a 14.5 for the base Solstice? The car runs 15s, like the Miata does. It's like they had the wrong number to start with, then subtracted 1.6 seconds to arrive at another wrong number. I would believe something around 13.9 for the GXP - start at 15.5 in the quarter and subtract that same 1.6 seconds for the estimate. 260 hp, 2900 lbs = 11.15 lb/hp, which would be slightly better than an LT1 F-body, give or take. Don't think stock LT1 cars were running 12.9s...
A 12.9 second Solstice would be sweet, but that would require ponying up for the Mallett version with the LS2. A 260 hp engine is not going to push the Solstice to 12.9 (even the lighter Miata with that much power wouldn't do it that fast).
Probably just a typo, but don't these guys stop to think about what they are writing, even in a mundane little auto show blurb?

Cost of the GXP model is estimated to be $4000 to $5000 above base. Watch for the Solstice GXP to hit dealer lots this summer.
