So whats going to happen with Saturn/Pontiac now they are gone?

I have a 2007 Pontiac G6... Wife would love to get a Saturn Vue.

Whats do current Owners expect for the future of these places going down? I assume warranty stuff at all GM dealerships. Resale will drop a bit.

As for Saturn/pontiac Current Inventory, Whats going to happen? Are there going to be huge deals to try and move stuff? What can we expect on this front?

Never really was around to saw what happens when car companies go under. How was it for AMC, eagle, Plymouth, etc....

Nothing will happen I'm guessing. Warranty issues can be dealt with at any GM dealership, just as before until the warranty expires. Afterwards, you can still get them fixed them at practically any shop in North America including remaining GM dealerships. (New) Parts availability should continue for quite some time; reconditioned parts for some time after that. Given the parts bin approach to building these cars, many of the parts may continue to be used by surviving GM divisions for the foreseeable future.

Whether or not we'll see fire sale prices is yet to be seen. If I recall, when Chrysler axed Plymouth a couple of years ago, the local dealership unloaded the last of its inventory at relatively low, clearance level prices.... the difference now is that many manufacturers are already throwing lots o cash on the hood to try and move the metal, so we may not even notice.....

I think the only cars of any real concern may be GTO, G8 and Astra since they actually come from outside North America.... but we're probably talking years down the road before that's an issue. And they still use a lot of common GM parts - body panels and being the exception.

I guess the bottom line is that buying a Pontiac or Saturn vehicle from here on won't be any different than it was last week or last month except that inventory will dwindle away to nothing and as long as they're under warranty, getting them serviced won't be an issue.

What are the ramifications to Holden seeing as they are the big user when it comes to G8 production. Zeta development, enhancements or next generation chassis now confined to AU if it's even done at all? More over the Camaro being the sole model produced on one of Oshawa's lines, certainly not the desired efficiency level for that line to be cost effective.

Wonder if this is all for nothing, as in C11 is amostly a certanity? How is GM getting freed on on the franchise contracts from Hummer, SAAB, Saturn, Pontiac Opel, etc? They certainly don't have the money to make large payouts to close these brands. Maybe they'll find buyers for all?

AMC is likely the best example. When the plug was pulled on it, it was part of the Chrysler Corperation.

When Chrysler bought AMC, it assumed all AMC's debts, contracts, warranties, tooling, etc. Then Chrysler systematically shut down dealers by offering Jeep to Chrysler & Dodge dealers and converting AMC into the Eagle division.

When Chrysler pulled the plug on Eagle, the vehicles were the same as Chryslers and Dodges and sold through the same dealerships, so there was no issue at all.

Ditto Plymouth.

Currently, most Pontiac dealers are also Buick-GMC dealers, so there is really no interruption whatsoever to operations save those dealers selling quite alot less volume. But evenso, the new Buick Regal is replacing the G6, so even the volume might not change dramatically.

Saturn is still planned to be sold. There is a group of investors and Saturn's dealer network that is getting together an effort to buy Saturn off of GM. With this new deadline of year's end, I suspect they will work harder and faster getting this done.

Finally, there is no waranty issue whatsoever regarding Pontiac, Saturn, Hummer, or even Saab even if no one buys or come to those brand's rescue.

Hummers are Chevrolet Colorados and Suburbans underneath. Saturns are Equinoxes, Espilons, or Deltas (Malibus & Cavaliers). Ditto Pontiacs. Even most of the G8's parts and pieces are on the Chevrolet Camaro. The thing about GM (and their "badge engineering or architecture sharing) is that between Chevrolet, Cadillac, and Buick, there are still more dealers to take your Vue or G6 to than there are to take your Taurus or Escape.

Unlike Studebaker, the death of Saturn/Pontiac isn't a clean really a death. It's more a ending of a marketing arm and a change in the distribution network.

That's all.
