If GM decided to bring back the Camaro and Trans-Am/Firebird, how much would you seriously be willing to spend? I think I'd get caught up in so much excitement that I would be willing to spend a little more than I usually would.

I hope and plan to spend 30k on a 2008ish Z/28.. A little bit higher than the GT stang is a good price to shoot for if they put it around 350hp, keep the weight down, and build a great looking, great performing poor mans vette 32k should be the roof since thats where the GTO will be... 26-31k would be a good range for the SS or Z/28 w/e they decide is the top model.

26k for LS2, T56 and 4.11 gears. That should put an end to the ricer fad.

Around $30,000 is as high as I would go.

I would spend about 23,000 on a base V8 and up to about 27,000 for higher versions.

Won't happen remember this is in 2007-8 dollars. Inflation is going to happen and also Camaro will have a much more sophisticated chassis than the last one. Bottom line you will NOT see a $23,000 V8 Camaro. Just like you won't see an IRS Mustang for less than $26,000.

Re: So if they brought back the Camaro/Trans-Am, how much would you be willing to spend?

In Feb 03 I bought one of 4 remaining Camaro's off a dealership lot here in Hawaii. They had 4 basically identical cars, all Z-28's all hardtops and all automatics. I paid around 28k. No leather interior, no T-tops, had most options I guess. Anywho, I love the car, but there are many, many days I wish I had bought in 2002, when I could have gotten a SS, convertible etc.

I would be more than willing to pay 32k-35k for a well optioned, manual transmission 2007/2008 Camaro SS. Guessing from how expensive the '05 Z06 is rumored to be ( over 70k) I imagine by 2007/2008 32k-35k would be a great bargain for the horsepower and fun.

Re: So if they brought back the Camaro/Trans-Am, how much would you be willing to spend?

My limit would be about $30k... hoping for a 400 hp LS2, 6 speed trans with the better gearing, well engineered IRS, wide perf tires, and bigger brakes.. Basically, more than a Mustang, but with more/better perf stuff.

a nice bonus would be getting leather, an MP3 player, and perhaps various coolers..

On the roofs though, I'd either want a one piece targa top or a hardtop..

Re: So if they brought back the Camaro/Trans-Am, how much would you be willing to spend?

Stars1010:
Cars do generally run higher here in Hawaii: the GTO still has a 8500 dollar
"adjusted market value". However, some dealerships will negotiate, if you are an informed buyer. If not, it costs 1200 to ship a vehicle from Phoenix, AZ to Oahu, Hawaii. I would rather pay the 1200 in shipping than pay some dealership here in Hawaii an extra 5000 or more that is pure profit. When the new Corvette's came out a dealership here marked it up 25,000!! They wanted 76000 and some change for a base C6 Corvette. The guy who bought it paid a little over 53K. But he bought it at that price by going to the dealership with the shipping papers, 15000 in trade and 15000 down, and a cashier's check for the remainder. Just because someone wants to make more money off you doesn't mean you have to let them.

I paid a little more for the Camaro than I wanted to, but I paid a price I was willing to pay and also got an acceptable price for my trade in. It also took me over 6 hours to get the price that I wanted. My bottom line at the dealership was" this is the price I am willing to pay and this is how much I am willing to take for my trade." I have been screwed by dealerships and being in a hurry to buy a car before, and I would rather buy at my price than get boned with an extra 3000 or more that I didn't have to spend.
