So how many here are going to buy a new GTO in the next 2 years?

The new GTO is one nice (understated) ride. After seeing it in person back @ the LA car show in January I was really impressed. While I have no plans on getting one since it currently out of my budget and now that California licensing fees will almost triple (going from .65% to 2.% ) next month making cars (new and old) even more expensive.
So who's getting a new GTO?
How much do you think its going to cost you (out the door)?
The nay-sayers dont know what they are talking about, the new GTO is going to rule

I would like to buy one someday (need to wait until I can get one used probably). Only thing is I don't like them calling it a GTO, looks nothing like one. They could have at least given it a 67 GTO hood scoop. Hey, maybe this GTO will start a new era of American Muscle cars just like the 1964 did.
I'm 18. The car isnt marketd to me for obvious reasons, numer 1 it being WAAAAAAAAAAAAAy out of my budget.
I asked my dad though if he'd be interested in one. He said no because, if he was going big, he'd rather buy a vette. Granted the GTO is 15k less than Vette I guess you could get a pretty nice Vette for that price on the used market. You would lose the 4 seats though.
I think the average people who will be buying this car are 30-45 year old males, who make a good income and might even have families. Basically, all those young men you see driving around in BMW 3 series coupes thinkin they're the **** with their sunglasses on and expensive Rolexes hanging out the window. Yeah, those are the guy Pontiac wants in the GTO.

It's a nice looking ride and all, but the fact that it has a V8 is not a selling point. Worse yet, it's a 2 door sedan. Maybe you could call it a coupe. But after intial launch, there won't be much of a market for a 35k 2 door V8 coupe. They should have brought the 4 door model as that seems to have a better market. But what do I know.
And the answer to the question, Nope.

It looks like the new mustang will be more affordable and more in line with what I want looks wise (lower, more aggressive, etc).
GTO looks to be a nice (if plain) car, but I think I'd buy a Mustang GT before I spent $35K.

If it came out this spring or early summer I would have bought one. But since I would have had to wait until April 04 (no point in buying one in Nov/Dec and garaging it until spring) I decided to get a slightly used LS1 Camaro SS which I probably will keep for the next 3 years.
Hopfully by then I'll have enough cash for a C6

GTO is most definately on my radar!
I have a feeling that the Mustang will eventially be seen on every block and every corner, given early indications. GTO will still be relatively rare, and no doubt still faster & quicker than a Mustang GT. If I went with Mustang, it'd be a Boss or Mach1, depending on the price.
On the other hand, a new El Camino would win me in a heartbeat!

Actually I'd spring for a reg cab 400 hp Silverado SS the day I graduate (2 years from now) if its there, but if there's not Elky, good SS, or FBody then a GTO's prospects are looking pretty good.
There is a very good chance that I will purchase an '05 GTO. I never even usually think about buying a first year model, but I'm going to try get a feel for the cars by test driving an '04. If I like it, then I will definitely try to swing a loan and get one. I love the styling of the car! I remember back in '97 when the last Grand Prix was released, and I thought that if only that car had RWD and an LT1, it would have been a perfect GTO. Well, now I've kind of got my wish, except the GTO has an even better engine. It will look good in my garage parked next to my Formula.
I will consider a GTO, even though I am on record as not being a total fan of the look...
Totally depends on price and dealer markup though.
Hopefully more Camaro news will trickle out by the time I would be deciding though.

Actually, myself and my brother are both thinking about the GTO. Im 25, he's 28. He currently ownsa 96 Corvette Grand Sport and a 99 Grand Prix GTP as the daily driver. He wants to replace the Vette because its "a pain" to get in and out of all the time (he also put in a hot cam, AFR heads, headers, etc which made it not as user friendly). In a nutshell, he wants something more upright, easier to get in and out of, with a few more bells and whistles.
I agreed. In about 2 years I'll want something a little higher up the food chain, but a Corvette is not it. I want something that I can pack some people into, but still be ballsy. My 02 SS is perfect for now....but I expect to be married and a family in a couple years. The Camaro won't cut it. A Mustang definitely won't cut it. I want a V8, RWD and room for 4 and some crap in the trunk.
The other choices would be a blown Impala, but Im not impressed with the amenities. BMW M3 - a little out of ym price range but my brother is still heavily considering it. The GTO fill s a nice void in the mid $30's. The CTSv seems to be a little out of the price range as well. We'll see....
Just some thoughts from someone actually considering the GTO...

I got my order in, Black w/red int inserts, 6 speed. Been on a list since Nov last year, just took my order last week. I am guaranteed not a penny over sticker, and the cost has been loosely guaranteed by GM not to exceed 35K. What do I expect to pay? $34,999.99
But, with the news that a limited run (~2,000) of LS6 GTOs will hit the road next spring, I am having a little debate
The first with the GTO, or the first with The Judge on my block
Either way, I am definitely in on the GTO.
PS: I honestly think the yellow/yellow combo will become available on the Judge. Too many people wanted it for it not to make production somewhere

I guess a person could always lease a GTO or Z06 to get the monthly payment down but I like to own my cars since I dont like to leave them stock for very long.
How could anyone go wrong with either a new GTO or a Vette
