Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But I've just always thought the Audi was the only brand that VW owned or fully controlled.
i know for sure that they do share technology more often than not(look at the vw phaeton, and like you said the toureg/cayenne platform). from the best of my recolection, they are more along the lines of brother companies. they are all connected but are seperate at the same time. porsche, audi, and vw all lend a hand to each other when necessary. i think the 4 door idea might be taking cues from the phaeton and the higher up audis(don't know all the model designations), they do sell well with upper class buyers in the US. IMO, most people that own a porsche probably do have somehting along the lines of a benz or 7 series bmw in their driveway, why shouldn't porsche be a one stop shop for german performace enthusiasts?

Awesome!

And a big high-five for them to potentially try that along with the SUV entrant!

After all selling cars is the name of the game! Pride and heritage are for epitaphs.

Well its only a slight abomination when compared to the Cayanne. I think it looks great, and Porche should have built this instead of the Cayanne for a high volume product. This thing will be crazy if it gets the Cayanne 450 hp TT V8 and weighs under 3700lbs.

Just to show you how much Porche f'd up with the Cayanne:

Just about anything will suck the doors right off it. Porsche whored their name out and gave us a non-performer.

That's the base model, though. Do you think that Chevy whored out the 'camaro' name by making a low-performance V6 model in addition to the V8?

Eh... I've never seen a Cayenne that wasn't at least an "S", if not for turbo

Turbo: http://content2.us.porsche.com/prod/...htsperformance

450hp, AWD, 165mph top speed, 5.2 seconds 0-60, 0-100 in a hair under 13 seconds, and a somewhat trick dynamic suspension system that allows for a relatively comfortable ride yet decent handling for an SUV.

Audi-VW does not own Porsche. The largest interests in Porsche are the family and various financial institutions.

FYI, VW/Audi does own Rolls Royce, Lamborgini, Bugatti, Seat, and I think Skoda. They've accumulated quite an empire over the past decade or two.

The V8 Camaro was a cheap car with a big motor. People still want the look, but don't want to pay all the extra money in a higher MSRP, gas, and mainly insurance. Cost is a significant issue with cars that cost less than $20,000.(cost shouldn't be much of an issue with a Porshe) Since V6 sales were higher than the V8 sales, you can argue the Camaro was more about the look than the actual performence to most people.

The analagy you should have grasped for is that the V6 Cayanne would be like a 2.2L 140hp Ecotec Corvette. Sure it might cost $17,000 less, but it is still beyond lame.

VW doesn't own Rolls Royce BMW does. VW owns Bentley(the Phaeton, Bentley GT Coupe and Bentley Flying Spur share platforms and a few other things; they will be built in the same factory very soon). They also own Skoda.

The Porsche sedan from what I heard is also going to be built on the same platform as the Phaeton.

The link between Porsche and VW is Dr. Porsche designed the original Beetle (ever get a good look at an old 911?). Also his grandson ran VW for some time.

In your previous post you made it seem like the low-performance V6 was the only available motor for the Cayanne. Simply not true.

And the V6 Cayenne would, I suppose, be like a V6 'Vette.

But like I explained earlier, Porsche doesn't have a choice if they want to broaden their appeal to the masses. Chevrolet does, because the Vette is just one model; they can always make more.

Sedan is better than an SUV.

When does the Porsche Minivan come out? Maybe they will put out a cube van and give Dodges new Sprinter a run for it's money.

Depends where you live i guess. Here in northern VA, i actually see a fair number of cayennes on the road, and the vast majority are non-turbo, non-S versions. Around here there are lot of people with money to burn on an image that really don;t care about the performance. There are also a **** ton of base engine BMWs around here too.

Re: So, how about a FOUR DOOR Porsche?

That would be the boxster, or porsche with panties if you prefer.
Yeah, that's something else I was going to mention. Why get mad at Porsche for offering a V6 in the Cayenne when the Porsche Boxster has always been on the slow side?

Oh well... FWIW the Boxster still handles really well and is really fun to drive.

Re: So, how about a FOUR DOOR Porsche?

Porsche used to be strictly a sports car manufacturer, but now they have decided to make all kinds of different cars for high performance enthusiasts. It's a slight change to their "heritage" but all of their models are really powerful or at least handle well and have all kinds of top notch gizmos that you can not get in a lesser brand.

Other than the price of admittance, what's not to like?

The Boxter really isn't very slow. Granted a high 14 second quater mile isn't blazing, but it isn't slow.
