Angry So, how about a FOUR DOOR Porsche?

The "practicality" weenies can now have a four door supercar in 2009. What is this world coming to?

I gotta say, that is the best looking 4 door I've seen. The proportions are right on, even with the funky back. Maybe it's not a proper Porsche, but I could defintely see them selling 20K. If I was shopping for that kind of car, the Benz CLS wouldn't even get a second look from me.

It's not a sedan; it's a coupe with 4 doors. Up is down and left is right.

The front looks cool, the back is quite questionable though...Has that bubble butt look goin' on and I can't say I'm a fan of that.

It looks similar to the new Mercedes that they used a coupe profile/chassis and found a way to squeeze in two functional non-suicide doors onto the back. Not a bad thing at all IMO, and certainly less 'blasphemous' than the Porsche SUV, which turned out not to be too bad after all IMO (anything unibody w/ 450hp, AWD, turbo, and decent handling is decent IMO... and it can tow decently well too since it's based on the VW Toureg!)

Maybe Chevy was onto something with the Chevy SS Concept, and someone at porsche picked up on it. The fact that they put out the porshe SUV, its like...might as well! As long as we never get a 4dr Corvette or Camaro! I'm good.

Re: So, how about a FOUR DOOR Porsche?

Sure, it can sit right next to the Porsche SUV in the garage! And then we can run out and get a WRX and call it a sports car! And then we can buy a big empty lot and live out in the open and call it a "environmental house!" And then we can all take our Prozac and be happy happy!

The world is coming to an end.

Oh dear, what are we to do?!?!?

Who gives a rats ***? It's just a car and they're a for profit car manufacturer. If this makes money like their SUV, then why not go for it? How does this affect anyone here anyway?

Some people associate "Porsche" as a sports car only brand with a lot of legend, heritage, and history behind it, and see it just as terrible for Porsche to make things that are anti-sports car, as if GM made a Corvette SUV to go along with the Corvette car.

What people don't realize is that Porsche is a self-sustaining brand, so if they need to make an SUV to make more money and market themselves better in the US, then they have to put a Porsche label on it.

If GM wanted to make a sports SUV, they can name it anything they want, and leave the history of the Vette alone.

It's the difference of building a traditional heritage for an entire brand (such as Porsche) vs a particular model (like a Corvette)

Re: So, how about a FOUR DOOR Porsche?

If people focus on this car and an SUV and decide the world is ending, they're idiots. This is not an entry into the Accord/Camry class like a Corvette SUV would be into any SUV class.

This is obviously aimed at the big dollar, high performance, limited production #'s, ultra-cruiser market out there.

And if anyone thinks they're losing it, consider this. 605hp V10, mid-engine, only 3k lbs. I got a chance to see one a few months ago. Mind boggling car. Porsche is in no way getting soft.

If I were in the market for a zillion dollar sedan that's fun to drive - I'd be there when it arrived at the peir. Let the cry babies who would never buy one anyway cry their eyes out.

I don't honestly know a lot of history behind it but from what I understand, volkswagen and porsche are tied together to an extent financially, but neither controls either. They were both started by Dr Porsche many many decades back, but have kind of gone their seperate ways, while occasionally sharing ideas and such (like the Toureg and Cayenne chassis being shared).

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. But I've just always thought the Audi was the only brand that VW owned or fully controlled.
