Looks like its a dealer installed option, but it doesn't say if its a cat-back exhaust system or just add on exhaust tips. If its a performance exhaust system it should be good for another 10-15 hp.

 

After I posted the last post, I went out to check the mail because last week I did a online request for a brochure on the GTO and there might be some better pics. and some descriptions of the options. Well I got the packet in the mail box and just now opened it.........they sent a damn '04 GTO brochure. And a Pontiac G6 brochure that I didn't even request. And some letterhead about special 2005 incentives that lists every model except GTO.

 

Not necessarily. '04 GTO's only get about 4-7rwhp from doing a catback. The stock duals seem to be pretty good even with a couple crimps in it.

 

Yeah, but remember the '05 GTO has a bigger displacement engine (6.0L LS2) and usually bigger engines make bigger gains with mods. But you are right the stock exhaust system is a good system.

 

I requested a new vette brochure and got the cobalt one anyways, the package that picture is from is just a dealer installed one, I havent read about what the exhaust is though.

 

The 2005 exhaust is totally different from GTO's 2004. From the cats, the duals go past an H-pipe (don't know if it's blocked off like the '04's), then into a single resonator (twin inlet, twin outlet) then the pipes go all the way to the rear of the car on each side, where dual mufflers are followed by the exhaust tips.

'04s were past a blocked off H-pipe, into dual mufflers before the rear axle, then both pipes exited on one side of the car.

The '05 GTO in the picture has a Pontiac aftermarket rear bumper. The standard production GTO rear bumper has a black insert, and IMHO looks alot better.

 

Aftermarket? Isn't that the rear fascia that is included with the sport appearance package? I agree with you though...the standard split fascia looks better.

 

It's comments like that, and the Corvette/Cobalt comment that makes imports just that much more less hateful to me.
Luckily, Ford has been good to me so far.

The oen with the dark grey insert with the GTO badge is stock, and all GTO's will get that.
The sport appearance package gets different front and rear facia, larger wing, hood scoops, recessed grill, and Corsa tips, not Magnaflow.

 

That's weird...I wonder why the Pontiac site has a picture with Magnaflow tips on the GTO?
