Sneak peak at new Cadillac NAIAS 2010 Concept
That headlight reminds me of something I was thinking about looking at brake lights all the way home.
A standard brake light doesn't shine out evenly when looking at it. You see a darker dot in the lense were the bulb blocks the reflection back and if there's two or more bulbs you get brighter to dimmer circles.
What if the housing diffused the light in such a way it was perfectly even glow where you didn't see through to the bulbs.
Might be more astetically pleasing and give stuff that extra little 'visual luxury preception'
Sorry it has nothing to do with this caddy, except the headlight light reminded me of it.
Wonder if those caddy lights have any kind of haloing to them. They look exceptionly blue.

All the lighting in the concepts headlamp are white LED's , which can in certain lighting project a blue cast . In this case though , that photo is heavily edited , so the blue color is just enhanced .
what cadillac needs is to be considered a style innovator and design leader. for that they need new product every year or couple of years. they need to lead on style...with great proportions, great surface form. in order to be bought in places like LA, SF, NY, miami, you have to be considered a style leader. hopefully this car represents that, and hopefully the attention to detail is there.
You guys really don't remember a quote from a few weeks back....Reuss I believe it was that said a car at the NAIAS would hint at what the smaller caddy is going to be.
This is ATS......but I'm only guessing.

I'm hearing that the ATS is a somewhat boring design. Let's hope that's wrong, GM needs this one to make a big splash.

As far as caddy is concered the taillamps are a non issue , everything in their line up is led strips and lightpipes . Gm seems to be slowly switching over to LEDs for most taillamps or stuff like the 3 dimensional regal taillights with a squarish type halo overlapped with the corner boomerang shape . Gm is finally getting with the program with contemporary lighting design .
To get the perfectly smooth lit appearance you are talking about, you have to have every single facet put the exact same amount of light into the exact same spot as every other facet (and from the same spot on the facet too). That means each facet would have to be custom designed and tooled with very little margin for error. It can be done, but it very rarely is due to cost andd timing considerations.

A friend of mine out here and a long time BMW 3-series buyer was invited to a clinic in October on what we know is the ATS. She said it was very nice inside and striking outside and despite all the badges missing it was obviously a Cadillac. She told them and me that if Caddy made that car she would be interested to cross shop it for sure.
