Re: Skyline GTR spy pics!

Very cool overall. I must admit I'm a little put off by the fact that, to me anyway, the G35, 350Z, and Skyline all look so similar to me in overall shape and form. Especially with the latest revisions.

The Skyline does seem to have some pretty cool specs...450hp will be nice. Yeah the torque is not all that impressive but with high revving motors like this, torque isn't always that important. Look at the output on some Ferrari and Lambo motors - low displacement per cylinder, very high revving, still fast. Just like your typical sport bike. Not saying the GTR will rev that high, but still, comparing it to an LS7's powercurve isn't exactly apples to apples.

The fact that it's turbocharged also means that it will probably be super cheap and easy to make even faster straight from the factory.

well i wasnt comparing it really. i though it had high tq and with the 450hp that it would be really formidable opponent for the vett. but with the all wheel stearing and awd it still might be right up there with the z06 at the track

It might make for a decent chase car but I doubt we're going to see anything in the sub-100k dollar range dethrone the C6 Z06's track prowess for a while...

Re: Skyline GTR spy pics!

Not bad, but I think I like the 350Z better. I guess I'll have to see it without the Camo.

What is curb weight on this car? 3800-4000lbs?

The target for the GTR has always been to exceed the Porsche Turbo in all performance categories and sell for roughly half the price which means in the $70-80K range. The target audience is not really the Corvette although potential Corvette buyers will probably take a look at it, it’s aim is more geared to those who’s tastes lean toward hign-end European sports cars as well as those who have always lusted after a GT-R much like those who have always lusted after a "Vette.

Best guesses are the engine will be a significantly re-worked 3.5VQ with a twin turbo and HP in the 450-500 range and torque in the 500lb-ft range and, of course, four wheel drive and four wheel steering.

Except for that fact that it's based on Nissan's FM platform and will be entirely new sheetmetal and a 2-door, all the above really are guesses; the security/black out of facts about the next GT-R has been extraordinary to say the least.

Edit: One thing that has been confirmed for production are 20-inch wheels riding on 255/40 tires in the front and 285/35 at the rear – it’s going to leave a nice foot print. Also, Lotus is tuning the suspension and there is hardly anybody in the world who knows more about handling.

Are you sure about the 4 wheel steering? Look at the spy pics. Front wheels are turned but rear are not.

4WS is the word right now but as I said above, no one is going to know for sure for a while yet. 4WS has been part of what's made the GT-R the GT-R so it's likely to be continued.

Re: Skyline GTR spy pics!

4WS systems typically turn the rear wheels only a few degrees maximum. It's possible that it just isn't evident in the pictures.

It reminds me of the Fox-body Mustangs, in its proportions. I like the 350Z better.

Re: Skyline GTR spy pics!

Looks to be nearly indentical to last year's GT-R Proto concept:
