Since the 300 has added value because it is built from last gen Mercedes parts...

once again, you either got your rags mixed up or you never really read C&D in the first place. C&D bust their collective nut over the Chevy small block series of engines every time they put ink to the page.

Car and Driver? The same ones who talk about push rods as if it was the devil, they love the SBC? Can someone post a link to this so called love? C&D tore APART the CTS-V when tested as it is not as "high tech" as the M or AMG series engines, along with the GTO using the "old tech" push rod engine. Show me this love for the small block. If it comes from GM, 99% of the time C&D will put it in last place and bash it. This is the very first time I have heard of this.

EDIT: just to give you a few examples off the top of my head, since you asked... they constantly wrote nothing but praise over the Camaro because of it's powertrain. i recall them saying something like "an all out racecar disguised as every day transportation" and "showroom racecar" etc. they use the SBC/4L60E combo as the BENCHMARK for any new or existing truck powertrains. they often write things like "this is a competent powertrain but we'd take the SBC/4L60E combo given a choice" about the competition. they sing praises of of the SBC burble/bark and how nothing ever comes close to emmulating it properly. there are countless other examples (like the love they have for the 'Vette). i mean seriously you're either not reading the magazine or you're trolling me.
the cars you mention as C&D "rippping" on... the reasons have nothing to do with the engine...
they DO however constantly jab the 3800 series engine calling it "evergreen" and "long in tooth", but honestly (me being an owner of one), who can really say this engine is anything BUT old and overdue for retirement?
