Silverado sales crash
Silverado sales crash
Haven't heard an official comment, but they dropped 30% year over year (51,000 to 36,000) while the F-Series and Ram stayed essentially flat.
Does anyone else think this might have something to do with the butt-ugly front end styling they introduced for 2003? I liked the old look. Yes it was conservative, but at least it was well integrated and in tune with the rest of the vehicle. The new front end looks grafted on and rather amateurish. Or to paraphrase a more famous source, like an "angry kitchen appliance". In the face of the beautiful new F-150, I'd say GM has dropped the ball on its bread and butter (pardon the mixed metphors). I sure hope the GMT-800 SUVs don't get the same treatment.
From what I've seen of GM's other styling efforts coming down the pike (Malibu, GP, GA, SSR) it looks like we're going to have to prepare for more disappointments. My forecast for GM has officially been downgraded

Personally I think the new front end looks very cool on the new Silverado SS. It needed an aggressive touch, and got it. On the other hand, the new Ford looks too "deflated" and the new Ram looks cartoonish with its comically oversize grille, tragically emulated also on the upcoming Durango, Dakota and the new Dodge ram sport wagon. Ugh.
Maybe some Ford fans are a little jealous of GM taking away market share?
BTW I suppose you all are oh-so-pessimistic about the hot CTS too...
... despite great sales and customer acceptance. And of course the Escalade, what a DISASTER that one has been in the marketplace

Does anyone else think this info is not right? Where did you get that figure from? That would be one hell of a bad year if Chevy only sold 53,000 Silverados.

GMC's update was more subtle and more effective IMO. Once again, the GMC looks better than the Chevy.
I agree the RAM looks cartoonish and I think its sales curve will follow that of its predecessor (i.e. peak early and a long descent down). The pics of the new F-150 look quite good, though, and now that their motors are catching up to GM's things might get tougher still for Chevy.
I quite like the CTS and wish I could afford one. Or at least wish I could afford one without selling my Z28 and/or eating nothing but Kraft Dinner for the next three years.

Ford sold 56,569 trucks in Janurary(UP around 1200 or so)
Chevy sold 36,088 trucks in Janurary.(Down 15,000 give or take)
The CTS is selling pretty good so far with 2,816
The LS is at 3205...........
Acctually GM "Truck/SUV" sales are WAY down.
Ford is hardly dropping in its weak spots.
Silverado sold 36k and the Sierra moved 10k, so with 46k on the month its not exactly a bad showing.
Caddy sales according to the site are up 24% for Jan! Nuts!
And there were a whopping 211 Camaros sold. Inventory is depleated, I think its offically dead, dead.

I really don't like the new front for the silverado. I really like the sierra. Actually I even liked the sierra before chevy updated their look for the truck. That's just my opinion. But I have heard a lot of people say the new silverado looks like a** from the front.

The new front end, IMO, added NO value to Silverado. In fact, I think the previous generation Chevy trucks, look better than the current gen.( Pre or post 2003 nose.)If there is one silver lining here...it's that John Cafaro is now designing trucks...and will leave our "new" Camaro unmolested.
Re: Re: Silverado sales crash
Lets just say the Avalance look does not carry over well at all with all the cladding removed , I think its horrible looking . IMO , the update the 1/2 ton Silvarados should have gotten was the Tahoe/Suburban front grill and lower bumper like they should have had since they were intoduced in 99 and went with the new 03 taillights which do look good . The AWESOME looking HD's should have been left alone cuz the 01-02 HD's were probably imo the best looking trucks GM has ever had .
Same deal with the Sierra's . That dip in the center of the 03 front bumper just makes the whole front look odd now .
